Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

That was a tough one to watch and take. A ridiculous first goal to concede bourne out of our constantly dwelling too long on the ball in dangerous locations and aft passing. I thought we actually completed well in the first half, despite almost gifting them a second.

We did well to score our goal but then showed complete lack of game management to throw it all away after Foden's silly pass. Madness to fall apart in such a manner.

Arsenal were younger and more energetic than us, they set themselves up well. Teams know how to play against us and it has to be said we play into their hands.

We looked lost in the last 20 mins, we had no answers. It's been a managed decline this. I don't think there is a lack of effort on the players part, they just can't do it anymore. We should have strengthened and replenished after winning the treble. I feel we fell over the line last season with some stupendous effort and other being a bit crap when it mattered most.

This season has been a season too far for some.

I'd go more direct for me. We have wingers who want to run at players. Haaland who wants a ball played through the lines to run onto and we know 7 out of 10 he's finishing when 1 on 1.

That way we don't need 9 players camped on their box, when it breaks down our back 4 is almost a 4 depending if a full back has gone up or not.

Leave kev in the middle to play those balls as he's no legs. Move grealish into the middle. He can do the rodri role of receiving from the defenders on the half turn. Need someone to do the rodri defensive side of things but I'd have been in the market for one. Not sure why we didn't just get Douglas Luiz in on loan if he was available.

We need to give up the possession based tactic. We don't have the squad or player quality to succeed at it now, teams have now finally figured a counter for it after 6 years. Maybe why he dosent normally stay this long, as teams start to figure it out.

That's my thoughts
Fair do's in answering

But it's not a guaranty that even your tactics would of succeeded due to the lack of quality in this set of players we have

Again any side in this league (Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, United and Spurs setc) would of struggled with the amount of injuries massive key players even the mighty Pep

Ortega was shocking today and he's is better than that..
When you look at what City have in available to play it sort of scares me, our defence options and midfield options and the ageing players and goalkeeper.
I wasn't saying ortega played well today.

Glad all the fannies have come in who don't comment when we win. Mistakes were made, we move on. They had their day out (dvd incoming) which was overdue. Fuck the tatquins. We will win the champions league. Keep the faith. MCFC OK
We’ll lose by at least 5 clear goals over the two legs v Madrid.

I doubt it mate , worse teams don’t concede 20 plus goals against in the past 10 games , we might dick teams like Ipshit , I like your optimism mate , very commendable, we look average , the stats don’t lie , Everton have a better record than us the past four games - let that sink in.
Scousers won it with shite

One side of me says: Result flattered Arsenal and it’s easy to play full risk leading 3/4-1 with 10 min to go.
Other side says: We surrendered too early and too easy. I don’t like that and not sure how that mentality has crept in

An absolute disgrace and it's all down to the director of football and the manager and their complacency. The great Liverpool sides under Shankly, Paisley, Fagan and Dalglish and dare I say it that mob from M16 under Ferguson always got rid of favourites who were past their best, we haven't and this is the result. There is no room for sentimentality in football and you always have to evolve, they for whatever reason took their eye off the wheel and we are where we are.

Fucking hell.

liverpool have won one PL trophy in 30 years.

the rags are currently 10 years without one.

We've just done four league title wins in a row.

We don't need to look towards liverpool or the rags for anything.

We have been due a pasting all season. Pep legend 90% - but the 10% is just as important and the 10% is the failure to start rebuilding after the treble season. We have never had a solid defence under Pep but we never needed one. Kept possession high up the pitch and if we did lose the ball recovered it in 5-10 seconds. Defence was never under pressure because the opposition couldn’t get out of their own half. Most of that was the relentless tempo of players in their prime - any young dynamic and aggressive team now we simply cannot compete against. Respect to Pep sticking with his experienced players and faith in his tactics but can’t get away from the fact that we should have started the process of replacing players 2 or 3 years ago.

Disclaimer: I am making this post simply because I always do and I guess I’m superstitious!
I haven’t seen one nano second of the game, I read about 8 or 9 posts on the match day thread at the beginning.
However I still maintain that the Boys in Blue never gave in. They fought to the end.
Whatever happened on that pitch today I doubt that any one of our players said to themselves‘I’m not going to try’. I doubt that they expected to lose by that many, I doubt that they gave up.
It was a very bad day on the field. Rubbish happens and they will be travelling home tonight feeling depressed.

This sounds bad but that is my hope as, obviously, I am not travelling with them, that that is how they are feeling because if they aren’t then I guess they are not the team I love. I stand with them when they win. I will not disrespect them when they lose. I will just say. You can do so much better Boys in Blue. Please come back and show us.

Shout me down, insult me (or not because you are always kind to me) tell me off for defending them but hopefully you will also acknowledge that I am as gutted as you all are.
Thank you.
Sorry @jimharri … We are MANCHESTER CITY THE BEST TEAM IN THE LAND AND ALL THE WORLD (STILL) :-)

Actually you know, EB, I'm in your boat, but my strong impression from following it on line is that, yet again, we didn't actually play ninety minutes of poor football, nor were we outplayed for an entire match. Far from it. This season, we've been thoroughly outplayed from first to last by the dippers, we've been outplayed from first to last by Bournemouth, and to be fair, we were outplayed for the vast majority of the match by P.S.G. That's just about it.
However, this is in no way an excuse. What has been truly horrendous has been the utter, complete, abysmal abdications ten minutes from the end, twenty minutes from the end, forty minutes from the end. And in too many cases, a complete lack of focus for the first five minutes, cf. today, Chelsea, and many other times
And it's not easy to explain — it's most un-Pep like. Or rather, it's most unlike a Pep team.

Pep would rather walk than change his style. Keep pep and sign the players he needs.
Plans must change to suit the squad available. Once the players are back the revert.
Don't hang these proud professionals out to humiliation.
I love Pep, but pragmatism is sometimes required in any way of life.

Defence is beyond redemption. Some execrable individual displays - Ortega, Savinho. Build-up is so slow it’s a joke.
While TV were focusing on Haaland’s lack of involvement, a City player was standing on the ball, immobile,on the edge of our box.

Everyone can and should be doing a better job.
You should ask the question why they aren’t ? There was a distinct drop off at a certain point of the season , and we’ve been doghsite since , we are like the shite over the road , win a few and look average , then get dicked , the team is shot , and its looking more and more likely each game that the finger points firmly at the manager. That was fucking embarrassing tonight , they went 2-1 up and the game was over.

I honestly don't think they were. They were very good, yeah. No question. But "excellent"? No, not in my opinion. We basically gift wrapped them the game, and they were good enough to take advantage of it. Forest yesterday put in a better performance. Or Fulham up at Newcastle.
Arsenal were scared until they scored the 3rd.

Then it could have got as nasty a score as they had wanted. They felt free to attack and calmed down.

Well if we only basing this on one table you might possibly have a bit of a point but they’re also 2nd in the best domestic league on the planet and have a cup semi final next week.

If you’re still genuinely clinging onto this claim of them being utterly mediocre I’ll have to leave you to it.
It was your suggestion.

United managing to beat them with 10 men is an alternative measure you might want to judge them by.
