Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

How is anyone happy with that performance we got battered by arsenal the whole game and played like a Mourinho side. It showed just how far off challenging this current side is
Bc it’s a great point at a tough place to play.. you would have taken a point before the game started.

Umm...United are crap by anybody's measure at the moment - Grimsby beat them a couple of weeks ago FFS - and Napoli were down to 10 early on, and they're hardly PSG or Real Madrid.

I'd have taken a point before the game too but not like that After we scored they were there for the taking, they had to come out which would have left gaps at the back.

I agree about the point regarding the subs. I can understand protecting Haaland, it's a long season buy Doku was the only one relieving any pressure towards the end of the match and taking him off for the last few minutes is hardly going to make any difference with regard to resting him. Savinho can't play that way and but for that change I think we might have held on.

Any point at Arsenal is a good point but I think we're better than that.

Any Derby game is a toss-up and they have a good record at ours and I'd say Napoli were extremely well set up against us and are a good team. Once they had the player sent off, that was it then went to bus parking. It looks something special from Foden/Haaland to unlock them. Ok it's not Liverpool and Real but both were banana skins.

I was thinking about the Haaland change, we don't have any other player who can hold up a ball do we?!

Beating United and Napoli and drawing at Arsenal is a great week. We were several minutes away from making the week sensational, but Pep and tge players deserve praise. The team has shown character.

Don't forget that Rodri, Gvardiol and Foden aren't in top condition yet. Tijjani can get better. We had 2 days fewer than Arsenal to prepare for the game, and so on. We are back. Imo, if we are within 7 pts off the top after the game vs Liverpool, we'll win the title this season. It's going to be a mad campaign.

Very disappointed not to win. We should have gone two up and a few consecutive poor decisions, including front the ref, cost us two points.

Don’t agree the subs were the problem: fresh legs were needed.

Roy Keane on the TV being critical of Pep mentioning the schedule, what a dick (oh but you knew that already). Two days more rest and prep is significant at any time to a game like today’s.

A decent week but we are miles behind Dippers already on points; not that we are favourites for the league. We still need more quality and pace but lost of fastest player at HT to injury thanks to that thug Gabriel.

We need our best players fit to have an outside chance of the league. We also need Rodri back to full fitness, which will take time.

I do not like playing like we did today but it is something we need to be able to do and were very good defensively today.
Doku was keeping us in it by relieving the pressure every now and again and I didn't see the point in bringing him off that late on. I thought we were doing OK even though I didn't like the tactics but would have probably held on if we had kept Doku on.

I know Pep got criticised a lot for not changing things around but every time we start changing things around we give goals away. Happened time and again last season.

Decent performance after a tough week, but I think Pep could have kept the Vinking on a bit longer. Once he came off we had nobody likely to score, and to be fair we had defended well until the 93rd minute. I would have settled for a point before the game, just frustrated we lost two more at the death

Could someone please explain to Savinho that he has to run out his heart for fukcin 7 mins on the pitch and at all cost has to attack Eze to block a free pass against our high line ffs.

Same for González. We need more fight if we want to win there.
All of them, as a team.

Showed character and that’s a real positive. It is a bit sad to accept that we can no longer out play teams though and need to employ more pragmatism and the dark arts. It’s a huge backwards step. I’d have taken a point before the game though. Don’t agree we’ve had a particularly tough week. Played two sides who were dire one with 10 men. That said we not had two days rest and Arsenal had 4.

I thought City played well, much more solid in defence and after two tough fixtures earlier in the week, and no time to recover from Thursday v Napoli, along with a lack of back up for Haaland due to injuries, I was impressed with City today, just a shame they couldn’t hang on for another five minutes.

This further cements Pep’s reputation as the greatest manager of all time. He’s able to adjust and evolve. I think the other Pep and Kolo are probably helping Pep adjust as well, and I don’t think he wants to play like that but sometimes you have to adapt. I have always said, even up to two years ago, that in those games where teams, would just park the bus against us, (including Arsenal) that it would be better suited for Erling and our fast players to play more on the counter. Sit back little and use Erlings pace and punish teams. We use to play like that in the Sterling and Sane era.

This game showed that we have a solid defensive spine especially on set pieces where we struggled for years, especially last year. I would add Donnaruma is a big contributing factor in that as well. And on that note, while everyone wants to focus on our low block, park the bus tactics let’s talk about Arsenal’s stoke city long throw in, set piece tactics. Let’s have a towel on the side, Rory Delap style. Defense which ultimately won us titles in previous years was the most important thing we had to correct from last year and. I think this game showed we have take huge step in the right direction.
Great post.

With zero pre-season, new coaching staff and new players to bed in, Pep has had to use the first 5 games to develop a style of play to counteract the reality that our possession based style has been completely sussed by opposing coaching teams.

Pep could have taken the easy route, gone full Amorin and stubbornly gone my or the highway. The fact he hasn't should be respected and celebrated by every Blue who has got half a football brain. The result will be a hybrid of Wolves, Napoli and today. I have full belief that his last season will deliver another title, maybe the CL trophy...and who knows, maybe another treble.

There will be ups and downs, so buckle in, enjoy the ride and think bigger than whinging about 7 points from 5 games.

In Pep we trust.

Not too downbeat about that as you knew a goal was coming from Arsenal, just relieved we didn't go on to lose it. I thought we defended brilliantly but we just didn't have the attacking players available to hurt them. Also I thought we panicked too much whenever we had the ball just booting the ball upfield and surrendered possession straight away. O'reilly my motm today, thought he was excellent apart from his throw ins. Great week, onto Huddersfield and several changes for that one
