Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Beating United and Napoli and drawing at Arsenal is a great week. We were several minutes away from making the week sensational, but Pep and tge players deserve praise. The team has shown character.

Don't forget that Rodri, Gvardiol and Foden aren't in top condition yet. Tijjani can get better. We had 2 days fewer than Arsenal to prepare for the game, and so on. We are back. Imo, if we are within 7 pts off the top after the game vs Liverpool, we'll win the title this season. It's going to be a mad campaign.
I'd have taken it all week. People on here had us down for losing all three. Think we are back to an era against rivals of an away draw and a home win is title winning form. Beat Liverpool and match them until then and let's get into Autumn properly.

Our fanbase always find a way to complain

- says Pep has to change tactics or get sacked
- Pep changes tactics and plays on the counter, which was super effective by the way
- makes defensive subs which is literally what you're supposed to do while parking the bus towards the end of the game
- every single player gives everything they've got out on that pitch
- we were literally 5 minutes away from snatching a win against United, Napoli and Arsenal in 1 week (only 2 days of rest for the latter by the way, with an unchanged lineup)

Let's not forget Khusanov went off injured at HT and Haaland followed later as well. We defended perfectly for 93 minutes and yet, people want to complain about Pep of all people

Top post.

Could someone please explain to Savinho that he has to run out his heart for fukcin 7 mins on the pitch and at all cost has to attack Eze to block a free pass against our high line ffs.

Same for González. We need more fight if we want to win there.
All of them, as a team.
Agree, others were exhausted but he had only been on a few minutes and just didn't press their back line at all which Haaland and Doku had done brilliantly. Bad mistake to bring Savinho on.

I said to my lad they are now able to launch balls up the park and push men up after they both went off.

Doku was keeping us in it by relieving the pressure every now and again and I didn't see the point in bringing him off that late on. I thought we were doing OK even though I didn't like the tactics but would have probably held on if we had kept Doku on.

I know Pep got criticised a lot for not changing things around but every time we start changing things around we give goals away. Happened time and again last season.

You have absolutely no idea if Doku staying on would have saved us. Any different action by Pep might have, as it is a different game but it is all just speculation.

Liverpool will drop points and whilst they are overwhelming favourites they have rode their luck in several games this season. Palace away on Saturday will be a difficult game and hopefully will see some dropped points.

Is Reijnders another who only looks good against lower half teams?
We had a couple of chances to increase our lead but we aren't clinical enough, and once Erling went off we'd lost our only realistic hope of a goal. Bernie ran his bits off but we needed ability on the ball as well as energy.
Sad to see Arsenal descending to the level of an upmarket Stoke, but so many teams now prefer strength and pace to skill on the ball.

Normally if we conceded an injury time equaliser I’d be fuming but I’m only a bit disappointed that a few poor decisions undid an otherwise excellent performance defensively. Reijnders, Nico, Gvardiol, Ake and Donarumma make consecutive poor decisions and they scored.

We effectively went to billion pound Stoke and defended their set pieces very well. We managed a decent threat on the counter from Reijnders and Haaland but especially Doku. Might have been his most mature performance for us. Certainly his best week in blue. Brought us up the pitch, slowed it down when necessary, got zero protection from the ref and created two decent chances. This summer I honestly wouldn’t have seen much difference between himself and Savinho but this season it’s been night and day. Savinho needs to understand there’s no cheap frees in this league and learn to work out of possession like Doku.

Still feels like we are working are way into the season. We are working hard, clearly our fitness and shape aren’t there yet but we’re defending for our lives which is great to see and Haaland looks hungrier than ever. Great to see Rodri play over 100 minutes.

If Liverpool’s Faustian pact runs out soon we should be close to them.

I’m personally buzzing with that performance it’s something I didn’t think Pep had in him. Sometimes you can play brilliantly and not have much of the ball or create much. Arsenal may think they dominated us but there’s a big big difference in dominating a team that just defends and try’s to hang on like we did today and dominating a team that’s trying to push on themselves and trying to score more and can’t because Arsenal are so good something city didn’t try to do.

From what I've seen of us so far, it's a team that is going to improve as the season goes on, assuming we can try and steer clear of anymore major injuries

Lets not focus on one individual season per se, and try and look ahead to next season whilst still being competitive this season

Going into next season with Donnarumma, Khusanov, Gvardiol, O Reilly, Rodri, Foden, Doku and Haaland, is a seriously good base to build on

We probably just lack a couple of ready made stars who will give an 8 every single week

I'm not including a lot of the newer players, as I think we're yet to see what we'll get from them, but fingers crossed Reijnders and Cherki can become part of that group of players

We've got such a young squad once the likes of Bernardo and Stones are moved on next summer, so it's hard to argue that were going to be a very good side for the next 5 years with that group of players
