Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Always going to be a bit gutting when you concede so late, however I would of been happy with the point before hand and I'm still happy with the point.

I think at this point of the season and after last season, the focus is more on the performances over the result for me and to come out of Utd, Napoli and Arsenal with 7 points all with really solid performances and 3 mins away from 3 clean sheets, it's hard to ask for more.

We've been screaming out to be a lot more solid defensively for a while now, and I think they have really showed it today, arsenal were unable to create pretty much anything over the 90mins.

Great goal by Haaland, also think Doku was top again.

Right now, this team really feels like the more games they play, the better they become.

Is Reijnders another who only looks good against lower half teams?
We had a couple of chances to increase our lead but we aren't clinical enough, and once Erling went off we'd lost our only realistic hope of a goal. Bernie ran his bits off but we needed ability on the ball as well as energy.
Sad to see Arsenal descending to the level of an upmarket Stoke, but so many teams now prefer strength and pace to skill on the ball.
Apparently players need 6 months to understand Pep‘s system so why not give him time or does that only apply to certain players ?

Not too downbeat about that as you knew a goal was coming from Arsenal, just relieved we didn't go on to lose it. I thought we defended brilliantly but we just didn't have the attacking players available to hurt them. Also I thought we panicked too much whenever we had the ball just booting the ball upfield and surrendered possession straight away. O'reilly my motm today, thought he was excellent apart from his throw ins. Great week, onto Huddersfield and several changes for that one
hopefully as many changes as possible - consistent with a win of course - maybe

Trafford
Nunes, Stones, Mfuni, Ake
Lewis, Gonzo, Phillips
Musaka, Oscar, Savinho

Our fanbase always find a way to complain

- says Pep has to change tactics or get sacked
- Pep changes tactics and plays on the counter, which was super effective by the way
- makes defensive subs which is literally what you're supposed to do while parking the bus towards the end of the game
- every single player gives everything they've got out on that pitch
- we were literally 5 minutes away from snatching a win against United, Napoli and Arsenal in 1 week (only 2 days of rest for the latter by the way, with an unchanged lineup)

Let's not forget Khusanov went off injured at HT and Haaland followed later as well. We defended perfectly for 93 minutes and yet, people want to complain about Pep of all people
Whilst I generally agree, once he took Haaland and Doku off he left us with no real outlet upfield, and you could just feel that the pressure was only gonna intensify, and an equaliser was looming because Arsenal were fast running out of time..... once again we were slow to react to a ball over the top, even though Martinelli clearly wasn't .

Beating United and Napoli and drawing at Arsenal is a great week. We were several minutes away from making the week sensational, but Pep and tge players deserve praise. The team has shown character.

Don't forget that Rodri, Gvardiol and Foden aren't in top condition yet. Tijjani can get better. We had 2 days fewer than Arsenal to prepare for the game, and so on. We are back. Imo, if we are within 7 pts off the top after the game vs Liverpool, we'll win the title this season. It's going to be a mad campaign.
Give me some of what youve been taking :)

A point gained on last season and good to be competitive away in a big game again.
We've gained 4 in a week ;-)

We played very well, in a very different way, we certainly didn't deserve to lose the game, which I feared when they equalised. Some very good performances through the team for me, lots to be positive about.

So Pep's no longer playing possesion football - probably because he knows the current crop aren't up to it.....but despite Klopp's assistant we're not playing gegen punk either - giving the opposition the ball and knackering ourselves chasing shadows is a strange departure.

Absolutely nailed.

This seasons PL as a spectacle will be one of the worst IMO.

Teams pressing as a result of Peps influence on the league has resorted to teams going more direct.

The games I have seen this season are lacking so much in quality and control, compared to previous seasons.

I broke my own rule by looking at the first fifteen pages of the post-match thread, expecting to see — not untrammelled praise, for sure not — but due respect for what was a cussed performance of a sort that we were not capable of turning in once all of last season. Some of the posts, I have to assume, were either posted by trolls, by infiltra(i)tors from other clubs posing as City fans, or simply by people who need help because they are miserable if City don't play all opposition off the park. They got right up my nose.
More fool me to have broken my rule.
How much does it need emphasising that we will have two obviously difficult away games this season, against the two likely pretenders to the PL crown? We have not suddenly turned into a Mourinho team, and it is a high probability — no, a certainty — that we will not play that way against anyone else in the PL, with the single possible exception of LFC.
How much does it need emphasising that we are in the middle of a major rebuild, that this is Pep.2, he's trying to set something up for before he leaves, but that it is only slowly falling into place? That in the mean time, we need to be a bit pragmatic.
How much does it need emphasising that we played an important European game on Thursday night, and that Arsenal benefitted from 48 hours more rest?

Finally, that we have Marmoush, Cherki and Ait Nouri, who have only just arrived, pretty much, out for apparently weeks, and that Khusa, one of our best defenders this season and arguably our key defender for forty-five minutes today, had to be subbed at half-time, presumably because of injury?

We couldn't hold out for the three points, and that's disappointing. We took one point, a draw away, at the ground of the most serious challengers to Liverpool — who up to now went head to head with them at Anfield, were amply deserving of a draw in that match, and have beaten or downright thumped everyone else.

Did you hear the way they roared at the end at the Emirates, as if they thought they'd actually won something?? That's who we are, that's how we live rent free in opposition fans' heads, when they think a draw at their own place against MCFC is some kind of victory…

We have Burnley and Brentford coming up. If we play the same way against them, I'll be the chief moaner on this forum.
But we won't.

Problem is, supporter wise, there been has and continues to be so much negativity. It is truly wearing.

Lucky to get a ticket today as fodens family, khusanovs fan club, family? were close by. I guess with high profile London games players family and friends have to go where they can. Support today felt good and i hope the Ricky Hatton and Donnurama baby chants were clear. Certainly looking forward to Huddersfield.
