Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

You can call it what you like mate, but we didn't focus enough at that one important point, whereas Martinelli did !

And if you was happy with dropping two points from that late winning position you should be questioning yourself, nobody else!

I didn't say I was happy but to call the players "unprofessional" after today is very different to saying they lost focus for a moment. Your original post is well out of order.

Also absolutely ridiculous to say it was the "one occasion that mattered", sorry but that is a very stupid thing to say. They repelled attack after attack for over an hour against a top team.

Nowhere in dobsy's post does he say he's happy we dropped 2 points. Nobody is happy that we dropped points after such a valiant effort.

But like most level headed Blues on here, you can still be proud of the team effort today, despite the points dropped. Its not mutually exclusive. Or, maybe see it as a great away point against a top side, who expected us to roll over.

101 mins of high energy, aggressive defending isn't defined by one passage of play, one lapse of concentration or a split second decision.

It's all about balance and context, not knee-jerk reactionary bollocks.

Ta.

It was not the most pleasing game on the eye for City but it confirmed we now have a defence that works well and that Khusanov has now been fully been endorsed by Pep. From my perspective I would keep that defence as based on performances to date I think O'Reilly offers more then Ait.

Savinho isn't good enough .... he's unable to effect most games whether he comes on a sub, or he plays the 90 minutes.
so agree. I'd swop him for Martinelli in a heartbeat and chance being bitten..
Oh for the days of Raz, Riyadh and Leroy.

And FYI I never criticised them like I do Savinho, I just don't rate him. Cost us today.

That set up, tactics and the performance on the whole could only be justified if we nicked all three points.

I am not enjoying this team and football we are trying to play.

It looked ok against shit United and 10 men Napoli, but I don't see the point of Pep hanging on to his job having us played like glorified Crystal Palace and hoping to stay top four contenders, what is the best this team can achieve.

But it was funny to see so many disgruntled Ars fans on the way out of home end.
Hanging on to his job? Are we really at that stage. Your replacement is who?

Last Sunday morning I would have snapped your hand off for this week’s results. There is a lot to still improve and this group of players are not the quality of recent years. But hanging on…?

I am proud of the lads to work so hard and play a system that’s never been in their dna.

This could be helpful come cup games.
It shows Pep can be more pragmatic without the ball.

I was never confident in a win but we were so close. I think the last 2subs weren’t entirely correct.

The biggest errors in my opinion:
1. Haaland not passing to Foden for the tap in. 0-2 and we’ve destroyed all hope.
2. Savio and Tijanji no going to the corner in the 92 min.
3. Donnarumma coming off his line for no reason.

Pep taking out Khusonov makes no sense to me. If he’s still there his pace take cares of every issue. Especially when Dias won 1/5 aerial duels.
Nunes sub makes no sense since we didn’t attack. He was great but you asked him to do everything Khusonov can do to a better degree.
Taking off Foden was understandable but Haaland was the sub that was incorrect. He was our biggest outlet and the reason we won 2nd balls. He also was our reason why they never scored from corners. Bernardo should’ve been taken out instead.

We have to win 5-6 games in a row.

The team and tactics were impressive. They almost worked !

Doku and OR my standout players.

Tijanji should skip the next game. He’s really struggled since his first game. Great assist but my goodness the Serie A truly showed me how slow that league is. I still have faith in him

I think Nico G should come back to the side idc if Rodri is the one that plays higher up i just think Tijanji needs time off. Bobb at RW is needed.

Lessons learned ?
We can defend and be very disciplined.
Never take off Khusonov
Every game is a final to stay in touching distance of Pool.
Khusanov was injured.

What was the city end like normally when we are in London our end is riddled with tourists was it the same today
bloke and his son in front of me eastern european. he celebrated both goals - his son - i would say about 14, spent almost all his time sat down scrolling through his phone. Certainly missed the goals. And next to them four others with half and half scarfs - but tbf at least they seemed to be “supporting City”

Whilst I can accept the approach that was taken, I cannot see this as anything more than an admission of inferiority, a capitulation of beliefs and i cannot understand how people are framing this as a step forward. A bit melodramatic but I think a part of Pep died today.
It's called having a plan B. Sure we could have gone there, played with a high defensive line all game, and got dicked 4-1.

Pep is obviously trying to change the way we play, more direct, a bit more physical. We aren't the finished article, it will take time and more signings but there's already improvements on last season.

Strong performance and very unlucky at the end. It feels like we lost. Everyone did solid today, Doku and Halaand were immense.

Did you see the team arteta started with ? He was scared of playing any attacking football until the second half, and even then with so many attacking players on the pitch, they barely created anything.

Pep didn't admit "inferiority", he went there with a plan, a plan that nearly worked perfectly.

Absolutely that is melodramatic. I would argue we play ‘our game’ with 2 days less rest and a lengthy injury list and we get another 5-1 tonking. Pragmatism, solid defending, maybe a little part of pep was born today.

It’s a matter of perspective.

Personally I have no problem with ceeding possession and being more counter attacking. But Pep never had a Plan B before, it's always been Plan A1. I just feel like this is such an about turn philosophically by Pep and playing like Stoke, doesn't strike me as a sustainable Plan B.

Ignore them, they were posting negative shit when we won the treble.

Very strange game. I like that we gave up on having our fullbacks way up the pitch as that's led to defensive frailty.

Perhaps without that first goal from Haaland we'd have been more expansive. We basically parked the bus after that goal and nearly won.
