But did we play really well? Really?
Did we defend fantastically or did we just defend deep and with numbers?
Listen if you're happy with that, then I respect that. I just believe that we should be better than that. I'm just asking myself, would Real Madrid or Barcelona or Liverpool do that?

It just seems odd to me that Pep would pick this moment to dramatically change his philosophy. For someone who believes, to his very core, that to cede possession so easily is almost a sin. Why now? Why not last year when it probably warranted it more.

We absolutely did defend well. Constant interceptions, great one on one defending from the FBs in particular. Donnarumma punched everything away, we defended 11 corners against set piece experts perfectly. The defensive was exceptional for 97 minutes out of a 98 minute game. It wasn't just sit deep and hope for the best. There was real organisation and real focus. Players were winning their battles.

We have too many players out. Marmoush would have been extremely crucial yesterday on the counter. Ait Nouri would have been important as well. The subs arnt in rhythm yet (Savinho specially) and will hopefully get into it soon. It's looking a lot better than last Saturday now atleast.
On the subject of Ait Nouri I'm not sure he'll get back in at LB straight away after Nico's performance yesterday. Saka would've ripped him a new one, besides he may have been caught out of position. He'll be fine for when we play lesser opposition but not against Dippers, Spurs or Newcastle.

Having slept on it, I'm still more pissed off than when we lost to Brighton and Spuds. Should have seen that out yesterday.

Real & Liverpool have regularly done the same to us in the past.

Mate, we're in a transitional season where we're rebuilding from the back to attack & also trying to rebuild our confidence, & reinstill our team spirit & rediscover that iron will to win.

What we're having to do is akin to changing your footwear midway through a marathon. Your opponents aren't going to stop performing & wait whilst you get up to speed. They'll take every advantage they can.

Whilst we're busy getting up to speed, we're gonna have to be more pragmatic during higher grade matches. Our fans need to realise that in our circumstances, points are more important than performance accolades.

I'd rather we did what we did yesterday & leave the Emirates with a point, than receive all the performance accolades with fuck all to show for it. Based on what I saw, our time of dominating games against elite teams will come again. When, I couldn't say, but the last 8 days has shown promising signs.

ArseAnal fuckin knew it too! Odegaard apart, they were at full strength & were properly rested. City were neither, & as the home side the onus was on them to make their advantage count & they couldn't.

If they couldn't beat us at home under those circumstances, it's the Tarquins who'll be realising their current advantage over City could be very short-lived indeed.
There was so little in it in the first half - Arse were so pedestrian - I commented that it was hard to tell which one was the home team.

I remember Real Madrid coming to Etihad with a mindset to not concede

Having had a few hours to reflect on the goal that was conceded I have come to the following conclusions:

A) a free kick should have been awarded fir the foul on Gonzalez - symptomatic of the refereeing of Attwell

B) Nathan Ake and Josko Gvardiol were uncharacteristically slow to respond to Martinelli's run - forgivable mistakes

C) Josko should have pushed up in line with Nathan but again, forgivable

D) Savinho who had plenty of energy, however, had one job to do, but he didn't do it. He didn't make any effort to close Eze down. Given that he has done the sum of bugger all when called upon this season, and he spent the immediate aftermath moaning to his team mates on the pitch after the Derby thrashing says it all. He has a bad attitude. If he doesn't improve we should get rid. That's not knee jerk that's based on observations last season and this - he does it when he feels like it which won't do. I'm done with him.
Savinho makes an effort and we don't concede.Im still fuming about his lack of effort.

If I was a team mate who had run his bollocks off for 90 odd minutes I would have given him shit for that, Doyle or Morrison would make sure he didn't do that again.

In fairness to him he wanted out in the summer and should have gone to give him a chance in WC season.

Just watched the highlights back from MOTD, Arsenal didn't create a single good opportunity really, 2 snap shots from Eze and Madueke. That was it. Their goal has been dissected to pieces already and clearly one we could/should have relatively easily avoided.

Now this wasn't a typical City performance over the last few years but we aren't that side anymore. I was absolutely chuffed with it and took more confidence from yesterday than the previous 2 results/performances. We know we can dominate the ball when we need to, we know we can create and finish chances and if we can show that solidarity, battle and spirit, we won't be far off.

I've felt for a year or so, we may lack enough heart and players who seem to give a f**k but whether it's Donnarumma's influence or the fact the players want to get back to the top, we seem to be finding it.

Fans moaning saying 'accepting 2nd best isn't Manchester City', that's entitled for me. Arsenal right now are in a better situation than us and Pep adapted pre game and in the game and it was justified, brought a good point and but for a lapse in concentration/free kick not given, would of brought a very good 3.

Loads to build on yesterday, players look hungry and now let's wrack up some points over the next 6 weeks, if the gap is less than 7 by the time we play Liverpool, we have a opportunity at home to pull ourselves into a title race I certainly didnt (and still dont currently) expect us to be in.
Thought we played alright, I don't get where all this bollocks is coming from.

Arse are a good team and were at home.

We scored a brilliant goal early and then had the next best chance with Haaland and Reijnders again.

Our keeper was superb and commanded the area, none of their cheating bullying at corners like they normally get away with.

Arse we're chasing the game for 85 minutes, they had to.

The goal was unavoidable and lucky (how often do you see those drift passed the post). However, having seen the replays we were well and truly robbed.

Goal ruled out for a foul the referee missed.

Look at the ref's position, he is straining to see the incident, it's a clear and obvious error.

There’s no way in a million years SAVINO should be allowing Eze 7 years on the ball and the space to look up, see the issue with our line and casually float one into the danger zone.

He was five yards away, with fresh legs made no effort at all ! If Spurs were genuinely interested in buying him we should have snapped their hand off.
Savinho didn't work anywhere near hard enough when he came on, disappointing that.

Liverpool always sit deep, hit on the break and dive for penalties/freekicks when they play us.

I am one of the biggest critics of our team’s defence and I was impressed by how we nullified Arsenal. Donnarumma is commanding excellently and the back four was focused. Pep set the team up perfectly and it worked well. We clearly lack control in the midfield still.
