Arsenal (A) - Post-Match Thread

Nobody seems to have crticised Rodri for removing his shirt and blatantly provoking the Arsenal fans. That booking may result in a suspension towards the end of the season when we need him most. I hope that Pep fines him. Otherwise, no complaints other than for the paucity of substitutions.

That rule is absolutely ridiculous and Rodri has every right to lose his shit and celebrate like that. If you can’t do that after scoring an injury time winner after being down at half time then what’s the point in the game? Good on Rodders, it shows that he gives a shit!

The yellow card rule for taking your shirt off only exists so sponsors get their logos shown in celebrations, it’s an absolute insult to the game.

Back in the 2000s I worked for a company that sublet office space at the Taylormade Golf U.K. HQ in Basingstoke. Ian Wright was there at least once a month getting some clubs customised. He liked to make a big entrance but seemed to have time for anyone who wanted a chat so I‘d struggle to dislike the guy.
A friend of mine met him in the street and got all the usual photo's etc and said he was a good guy who seemed genuinely interested in him being a Cardiff fan & they talked about how much of a basketcase that club is.
Maybe he caught him on a good day but i like the guy

To be fair, I watched the highlights too, and it doesn't really reflect how well they played. It was mainly their energy that stopped us stringing three passes together in the first half, and they looked far more dangerous with the ball. But yeah, in terms of final product, there wasn't much cutting edge. Having said that, there were probably at least two or three other clear opportunities other than the goal that they should have scored from, whereas for us, I can't really remember us creating much at all, other than a couple of headers that should have been on target. Obviously when we were a man up, we dominated the game, but we still were largely limited to pot shots and easily defended balls.
We looked a bit leggy I thought, its not surprising that a well rested side like Arsenal gave a pretty knackerd City side a run for their money. I really hope we play a very young side in the FA Cup, our big players need a rest.

Overall I'm delighted that we got out of the Brentford and Arsenal games with all 6 points. I don't really care if it was a bit of a scrap.

I don't know why he's not used as a pundit more often. He's actually got a bit of personality too, unlike a lot of them. And he's also spoke excellently on more serious issues in the game. A great ambassador for the sport imo.

The first one you could watch 100 times and still not be sure. With admittedly blue tinted specs on Ederson's heel touches the ball first and his foot is planted on the ground, but if it was anywhere else on the pitch you'd see it as a 50/50 with the decision going either way. The second one the VAR says "and did you see the handful of the shirt" and the ref has said "no" so he has been asked to take a look at it paying attention to the thing he missed first time around. It doesn't seem overly complicated to me, but VAR hasn't solved any controversies and seems to have created some so maybe we should just get rid of it and go back to where we were.
The controversy it can't solve is emotional hysteria.
Ask Jake Humphries.

Sort of, but I think it was also to stop a farce like this from happening again...

Surprise, surprise, no punishment for the rag.

Phew! That was close... Too close for comfort, but we did it. Arsenal were very good & have progressed nicely since the opening few weeks of the season, so Arteta should be proud of his teams efforts.

Of course it was a penalty! There were two offences of Xhaka's leg across Silva's knee & the pull on the shirt. For one offence maybe, but not for both.

I hate to say this, but I've noticed Bernardo seems nowhere near as effective when KDB plays. Add Gundog into the mix, have we got a Gerrard/Lampard/Scholes scenario at City where 3 doesn't got into two?

The reaction from Rodri scoring the last minute winner was priceless. His outpouring of emotion shows how much he's bought into City. If he carries on the way he is, we've a potential Superstar on our hands. Different to Fern, but equally as effective.

Finally, Aké may run like he's wearing lead boots with a concrete lining, but let's not underestimate the vital importance of his intervention...

We've not been at our best over Xmas, but we did what was necessary & 9 points out of 9 is as good as it gets. It's advantage City so over to the Chavs & Bin Dippers. A 0-0 draw will do us nicely. 20220102_103026.jpg

My complaint to BT

The commentary for Arsenal vs Manchester City was incredibly biased towards Arsenal.
The reporting of VAR incidents during the game set out to create outrage rather than commenting on them referencing the laws of the game Rio Ferdinand and Jake Humphries did all they could to undermine the referee and suggest Arsenal were somehow cheated. Great store was placed on VAR inconsistencies despite the fact that your expert referee Peter Walton described in detail what had happened and why.
The overall commentary of the game was like listening to Arsenal TV. When they played well, commentary bright and humorous and eulogising about how brilliant they were. When City came into the game a noticeable difference in tone.
I am used to your dislike of City through watching your commentary on CL games but this one absolutely took the biscuit. I pay the same subscription as an Arsenal fan and deserve a balanced commentary that covers the good, bad and indifferent from both teams. Neither do i expect to see the City pundit Lescott silenced by the other two when he tried to put forward a counter argument. Really really poor.
@stevemacca
i certainly did.
