Arsenal FA Cup SF Post-Match Thread

Too much rotation and the best players lose their sharpness.
That's why Guardiola's philosophy is more suited to league football, which allows for the odd slip-up.
I wouldn't even say it's that this season. We have got some serious issues.

In the league if you lose 1 in every 4 that isn't the odd slip up.

I didn't watch the game and not seen the highlights. I assume our chance conversion was the issue again?
wouldn't really say we had many clear cut chances, pretty sure we had 1 shot on target with 12 attempts at one point. It was a dismal display, and just shows that possession pretty much counts for nothing.

Thanks

Thanks mate. You're right about possession. Looks great in the stats if we're winning. IMO we need to find a replacement for Sergio sharpish. A player who instinctively can score goals. I know these are few and far between but the forwards we have ATM are not naturally suited for this. Kane anyone?

The season's been littered with performances like this. We're fine when things go our way but if we go a goal down our heads drop and we don't look like getting back in the game. We seem to have lost a bit of hunger which is linked to a lack of real leadership in the squad since Kompany went.

You should re-watch the Madrid game.

I think it was 14 shots with just ONE on target which is pretty dismal to say the least. As usual we had around 13 corners and did nothing with them. Arsenal had 4 shots, all on target and scored twice.

I thought Arsenal played us well, we had the best of the game and we could have scored a few. I am a pragmatist and we'll lose some games and this was one of those games.

Onwards and upwards, a good transfer window and trophies will flow IMO.

Thanks

Completely correct on possession. Had a few disagreements on here over the years about this. It's used as some sort of shit shield by a few after a poor showing, almost along the lines of "we didn't deserve to lose with that amount of possession". Means zero.

Got to laugh at Dion Dublin's comments. Yes we were strangely limp and subdued once we got to their box (we spent most of the game around their box), but for him to say 'Arsenal completely outplayed City' was laughable. Arsenal were in the game for a total of about a minute - four chances and two goals. They closed their eyes and hoped for the best - they don't know how they won that game. Like I've said in earlier posts, we're pre-season rusty with a tendency to leave the door open at the back. Do we attack Madrid from the off or do we smother them ? Madrid expect us to attack.

Foden should have come on at half time, he runs past defenders and gives better attacking options. I can’t understand managers who have to wait until 60 minutes to change things when it’s not working

Whenever I see Gundy in the team I feel the opposition has a chance as he offers very little to the team.

Yesterday showed the weakness the way we use wind forwards, when we played with Raz and Leroy we attacked at pace and it didn't matter what anyone did they couldn't stop it.

Since we have moved to an inverted winger system there has been far too many games where they run out of ideas and just lump crosses into the box, Norwich at the start of the season being a big example. I honestly can't wait for Ferran Torres (assuming he signs) because he's almost a hybrid of Leroy and Mahrez in that he has pace to drive round the outside yet is completely comfortable cuming instide, the fact that he is 2 footed and can play both sides means we become less predictable.

We should also be adding a more rounded forward to the team someone like Jovic who will be available and is 6ft tall and a good footballer.
A forward in the mould of Dzeko is a must in this window, absolutely clueless pinging balls in to the box for Jesus to try and win, awful tactics from the players yesterday.

Which is a worry if Madrid get the first goal in a few weeks time.

Really poor performance - with and without the ball.
The first goal was indicative of just how passive we‘ve become. Moved through the pitch from their keeper to our goal, and I don‘t think at any point we got within 2-3 yards of the man on the ball.

We all know any decent team in Europe can easily see the template to beat us from that and other defeats this season.

All seem to be carbon copies.

It also showed off how good a manager mikel will be, fully assessing his opposition and adapting to them not just 1 way of playing.

He also did it with that load of shite at Arsenal, imagine what he will do once he has his team!
