Err, not quite. If we're talking about benefactors, you were a mid-table fairly skint club in the mid 1990's until Danny Fiszman pumped in £50m to fund player purchases. Your recent fortunes started then and that's what allowed you to get 3 PL titles. £50m in 1994 is about the same as £400m now so you have no moral high ground I'm afraid. Fiszman did for you EXACTLY what the Sheikh is doing for us.
Even their own legend Tony Adams recently admitted the club would be nowhere today without Fiszman's investment

We would've done exactly the same in their position. We are a scalp now and we need to man up and face it head on

Your spot on. Arsenal deserved to beat us and their fans have evey right to celebrate. Its just the saddo element of their support who seem to think that they are somehow more morally better than us that grates. One of the biggest reason for the inequality of finance in the premier league is this idea that the top 4 get so much more money than the others. Something which Arsenal whilst never winning it have taken full advantage of.

Sorry to correct you here, but we have won the Premier League 3 times.

You have a point about the inequality in finance, but that goes back a lot further than the Premier League. There used to be the self styled big 5 (Liverpool, Everton, United,Spurs and Arsenal). Those clubs were wealthier than the rest for a variety of reasons, but not to the extent that clubs like Forest,West Ham,Derby or Villa couldn't build competitive teams.

Even though I support one of the original big clubs I think the Premiership and Sky have done more bad than good for the English game as a whole.

What I can't understand is when City or Chelski fans use it as a moral justification for what they have done since their respective takeovers. Mansour and Abramovich have made it even more of an impossibility for the majority of clubs to enjoy any degree of success.

The emergence of City and Chelski hasn't really hurt United or Arsenal. United still win stuff and we are still up there. What the Arab and the Russian did kill is any remaining aspirations the rest of the clubs in the league had. They have also caused wage inflation which has been fed down into ticket prices at the expense of all football fans.

I never claimed that you hadn't won the Premier League just the fact that you were a member of the big 4 who because of Champions League money were able to buy the best players and so stay ahead of the rest in a self serving cartel.

The only way to break into this top 4 was to spend money which Chelsea and City have done. As for the emegence of City and Chelsea well lets just say that the fact that Chelsea have replaced you as the most successful London team would suggest that it has hurt you.

But you said this at the start of the thread ?

The two main reasons we haven't won anything in that time are Roman Abramovich and Sheikh Mansour. Good luck to you and Chelski, but looking down your nose at a self sufficient club says a lot about you.

Make your mind up Tarquin.

You could tell them this all day but just like when you say the same thing to United fans about Louis Edwards and co., they will completely blank you out and pretend it never happened.

always liked arsenal before we became good. don't now.

their fans sing "spend some money" whilst being ripped off by their owner for a stadium they couldn't afford and have a go at our spending?

add to that the bitterness that their players want to join a club with a better future than them, which they can't take because they're like utd, used to winning, the glory hunting morons.

We haven't won anything for 7 years. We have also spent less in net terms on our team than any other club since the Premiership began. In that time we built the best stadium in the country off our own backs and never fallen out of the top 4. We also try and play good football wherever we go, including your place. Come back when you do the same at the Emirates.

The two main reasons we haven't won anything in that time are Roman Abramovich and Sheikh Mansour. Good luck to you and Chelski, but looking down your nose at a self sufficient club says a lot about you.

Yesterday's win was a good performance against a team with limitless resources that probably guaranteed us Champions League football for the 15th consecutive season. Unlike you we need the revenue to remain competitive, so forgive us for celebrating.

I don't like picking scraps on opposition forums, but you might want to reconsider your statement about Arsenal being classless.

I may stand corrected, but didn't an old chairman of yours buy off the FA/League and deprive a Northern team - Barnsley, Burnley - of their rightful place at the top table in the 40s/50s?

Just saying.

I appreciate that having been far more successful than City (and lots of other clubs) during the past 15 - 20 years, there's a natural sense of entitlement amongst your fans and you panic about any team challenging the status quo, but that could be construed as a tad arrogant.

We've built a team - agreed - but we had to to stand a chance of breaking the Sky-4 hegemony.

See you next year!

Fiszman was real reason Arsenal did so well, says Adams
Former Gunners stalwart explains why money always counts when it comes to winning titles

He notes that among the most significant changes since his previous visit has been the death in April of Danny Fiszman, the diamond merchant who joined the board in 1992 and helped finance Wenger's Double-winning teams of 1998 and 2002.

Those calling for more spending on the current team will be interested to learn how highly Adams rated Fiszman's contribution. "I think that a significant factor, 90 per cent, in why we achieved so much is that Danny Fiszman invested £50m in the club and we were able to go to the next level," he said. "I got my first decent contract at the club, so did David Seaman, we were able to bring in Dennis Bergkamp – and that was before Arsène arrived – David Platt, Patrick Vieira, Nicolas Anelka, and were able to pay them – top players from around the world.

"I'd like to feel that a good manager can get the best out of those players once you've got them, but more often than not, if you've got the best players you win the League," he added. "And more important than that, if you've got the best defensive record you win the League. Fact."
