Arsenal (h) Post Match Thread

Second half a much better performance, well it started just before half time with our brilliant second goal. If Pogba had made the pass Gundogan did the media would still be wanking over it.

Conceding soft goals is still a worry and missing decent chances but a vital three points. If we can get a below par De Bruyne and Silva firing on all cylinders again and keep everyone fit we have a chance. Still a big ask as we have some tough games to come and probably have to win them all unless Liverpool start dropping points.

One really annoying thing is once again a big decision isn't given for us at a key time. An obvious penalty and that is probably 2-0 and an easier afternoon. Atkinson has history and it's bordering on bent. Sure the third goal may have been disallowed but it would have been harsh and only evened things up.

Great performance v 11+2, the scoreline flattered them.

Sterling on the right isn't good, maybe Pep should stand in SS3 with us if he can't see it on the touchline.

Great win but sick and tired of the recurring stat of 1 shot against us every game ends up a goal.
Newcastle and today, combined chances against us probably 3 at the most yet we've conceded 3 goals.
I don't get it.

I've yet to see any proof of handball. They replayed it 3 or 4 times on Sky and with Souness saying it was handball,
no angle actually shows a definite touch on any part of his arm. It hits his hip and looks to go between him and his arm.
Think we need Cricket's snickometer on it.

Thank you! I haven't seen a replay of the goal but in real time there was nothing to make me think anything other than that Sergio had simply slid it in. I've been told that on Sky they said it came off the back of Sergio's elbow - I can't see how that can have been anything other than a physical impossibility, since this would surely have sent the ball away from goal and not into it! As for the yellow for Gundo, it was neither a yellow nor a penalty but a thundering shoulder charge from (I think?) Kolasinac. The card was one in a long series of mistakes from Atkinson who had a typically dreadful match; it's still open season on Raheem and there has to be some rule that Sergio (among many other City players) must never be given a penalty.

Over 90 minutes today's performance marked a sizeable upgrade on Tuesday! We started well and I don't think we did slacken off after the first ten minutes: rather I think we forced Arsenal to get everyone behind the ball and penned them in so that we had to probe patiently instead of exploiting space behind a jittery Arsenal back four. The Arsenal equaliser was a shock but they never looked like repeating it or taking control, we kept moving and stretching them and our second was a beauty. In retrospect that was the end of the match as a contest because the only issue in the second half was how many we would actually get.

We weren't at last season's best today - there was none of the unremitting pressure teams crumbled before - but a massive relief after Tuesday.

Just in the door. Great performance and result. Kun will take the plaudits but thought Bernardo was fantastic.

Thought Sterling and Walker had poor games.

Why oh why is Walker so risk averse and always looking to either play sideways or backwards

cos he's in a very extended run of bad form and is desperate to play his way out of it. Many footballers go back to extreme basics (and do very little that may potentially go wrong) when in a bad patch. It's a coping mechanism to remind yourself you can actually still play.
