Arsenal Post Match Thread.

This is the same defence (ok it's aged) that we had under Mancini or close to it.... he made it work... Pep doesn't make defending a priority and other teams know this... therefore I'd say that Pep and the team under his guidance have been found out....

You can argue Pep doesn't have Vinnie but he does doesn't he?!?
Bobby's Manc's defense is 4/5 seasons ago a long time in football he also had Gaz Baz and NDJ and off course a 100% Vinnie not the one sat on the bench now

Pep's team defend as a team, like Joe Mercer famously said the best means of defense is attack. With Pep the philosophy is if you have the ball the other team cant score unfortunately this squad's biggest crime is too many unforced errors, giving the ball away cheaply, it is why he brought Yaya on yesterday and what he did he spend 10 mins doing!
Amazing that the LaLiga and Budesliga teams failed to work Pep out, despite 4 and 3 seasons respectively to do so or is it that the managers in the PL are all better than their counterparts?

Just a general notice
WHO THE FUCK IS STIRLING?
e and i are nowhere near each other on the keyboard
It shows a complete childish lack of respect and the same goes for "kolorov" or "cliche"
once is an accident but the same posters do it over and over and its getting very boring
My apologies, early morning slip up. Doesn't hide the fact that Sterling is a bottler and always pulls out of 50/50's.

Lost as an out and out winger for me as well.

He plays centrally in an advanced role behind the striker to get the best out of him.

He's not the same level as Silva as a number 10. Kevin show glimpses of brilliance, the ball for Sane's goal yesterday being a prime example; but he doesn't have then athleticism or physicality to play in midfield. I'd play him wide right instead of the very limited Rahim Sterling. For me nobody crosses a better ball in the whole of the premier league, and like a certain David Beckham, he doesn't need to beat his full back and get to the by-line to do it.

I would think that the majority of any 50/50 balls Sterling has to go for are in the opposition half. Personally I don't have any issue with him pulling out of challenges in these situations, rather him fit and able to play than snapped in 2 by some donkey like Coleman was last week.

I see there's A LOT of criticism of Pep doing the rounds again this morning. Seems thoroughly misplaced to me. Yesterday was simply more of the same from a collection of players who going back a long way now have found it difficult to impose themselves and play when faced with any resistance. Arsenal didn't even need strong resistance, all they had to do was get hold of the ball for a minute after our 1st goal and we collectively disappeared into our shell. It's such a baffling thing to see. Not one player in the 2nd half played like they had any need to go on and win the match. The pedestrian nature of the passing and movement made the game feel like an exhibition game at times. Like I said, baffling.

One thing though which really stood out for me whilst watching Navas flail and Toure lumber though was this. Compare and contrast. Thiago, Vidal, Xavi Alonso, Philip Lahm, Javi Martinez, Renato Sanches, David Alaba, Josh Kimmich. These are all the midfield options Bayern have to wrestle control of a football match. It's safe to say that putting Toure, Fernandinho, KDB, and Silva next to that list more or less tells it's own story. For all the talent of the latter two, they are beginning to show serious signs that they actually aren't good enough to play as number 8's because they simply can't do the work going back towards their own goal and can't impose themselves on games where they're faced with physical midfielders like the ones Arsenal fielded yesterday or Monaco did the other week.

More open heart surgery on this squad this summer. Lets hope that they finally implant a backbone into the squad whilst they're at it.
Well said. I think some leaders on the pitch are needed. Without De Jong, Tevez, Zabaleta or Kompany we lack leadership. We seem to lack any belief we can win these games, which is not helped by our porous defence at one end whilst missing plenty of chances at the other. I do hope if we are building a new defence that we'll get them in early so they can bed in quickly.

Thought Navas did OK at right back, had Kun scored the header from navas beautiful cross people would be singing a different tune... Was never going to be a fluid performance. Let him play at least 4. - 5 games there. I defenietly think its the future.
Navas has good work ethic, retains the ball well and most importantly pace. All qualities required for Rb. A step in the right direction.

Reminded me of how Seamus Coleman was converted from R Wing to R Back...

Toure giving the ball away for his first 10 mins, more like for most of his time on the pitch and when he wasn't giving it away, his pass to a fellow blue nearly always put them in trouble. To me he offered nothing to improve us.

lots of stick for yaya but where has KDB's touch and pass gone, he was one of the easiest players on the pitch for arsenal players to read and steel off. At times I panicked when he got the ball. Wasted to many chances

Generally the passing was very average but having had some time to reflect, I think all the teams who had a lot of players away on international duty suffered this weekend. Obviously Chelsea's loss, our draw, United's draw, Liverpool won, but the Everton team was a semi youth team. Spurs were the only side who had a really good result, maybe because they're all much younger and recovered quicker, I don't know, but I do think the Intl. break was a form killer.
