No way Wenger will pay big money for Cavani or Falcao.

He's already had a big transfer this summer with Sanchez, I can't see him having another.

Arsenal must be hoping Sanchez clicks as a striker, otherwise they're in deep trouble. The extremely raw Sanogo or the unfancied Campbell really aren't the answer for a team trying to win the Premiership.

What happened to Ozil btw? He looks a fraction of the player he was at Madrid.

I dont think Cavani will want to come or that PSG will allow him to leave as they hav zlatan out for quite a while. Cavanis wages are huge too.

Yeah, last nights display shows that Arsenal aren't that strong. I fancy them going out of the CL: if besiktas gave them trouble Galay should definitely do so.

I seriously doubt whether Wenger is inclined to pull out the cheque book for a striker despite Giroud's injury. I think he's banking on Sanchez being able to adjust fairly well to a central role and the team being able to get by in that transition period. But like you say, from any kind of objective standpoint, it doesn't look like an attacking line-up that can mount a title challenge. Sanogo and Campbell are both still raw and inexperienced, Podolski is very one-dimensional although his god-like left foot is nice to have, Oxlade Chamberlain is an exciting player but needs to add goals to his game. Walcott will be great to have back, but with Giroud out for so long, it seems like while with one hand the injury gods giveth, with the other they taketh away. Another body in there, of even a decent level perhaps not even as good as Giroud but at least more experienced than Sanogo would have given the team the requisite depth, I feel. Which makes me wonder whether Arsenal really are serious about taking on the title this season, but surely Wenger must want it more than anyone. I don't know. In the end you just have to have faith I guess from match to match, rather than dwelling on the big picture too much.

Ozil was instrumental for Germany in the World Cup. Granted last season was off and on from him but I think he suffered from missing out on a winter break. At Goodison he was clearly struggling for sharpness, but I think he had a decent game against Besiktas. He played a crucial part in the buildup to the goal as well as in a couple of the excellent chances created in the second half. Definitely not at the peak of his powers, but I think we may yet see that this season.

Ozil was far from instrumental for Germany. In fact along with Howedes, probably one of their worst players. He was lucky to be in the team and Germany would have been better starting even Schurrle. He was not at Goodison either and was poor against Besiktas. I thought he would be great last season, but I no longer think so and if he keeps playing on the left things will get worse.

Wenger sticking all his best players together and hoping from the best is just not going to work. Withut Giroud they are even smaller and lack more physical presence.

Decent draw for them in the CL though, but I think Dortmund will top the group and Arsenal unless they get very lucky will be out in the 2nd round again.

Just a guess, but could it be that the players around him are a fraction of those at Madrid?

If this is right that Falcao has gone to Madrid on loan then I wouldn't be surprised to see Benzema roll up at Arsenal.

Not that it means a huge amount but didn't he sign a new contract not too long ago?

I used to quite admire Wenger for the way his teams played, but I'm developing an almost pathological dislike for him recently. He just comes across as a bit of a snide, bitter bastard these days.

Not really, because he has been awful for Germany where he is high quality players around him. He has lost all confidence and is now being played under position. The Arsenal fans I speak to are also angry at him (they know it's irrational), because he is the reason they did not get Fabregas. Every time Fabregas scores or gets an assist it will make Ozil look worse. He is likely to lose his place in the German team now and really needs to knuckle down.

I think he did, but as you said I doubt it means much. However, Madrid are unlikely to sell him with question marks still out there on Falcao's knee after his injury. If they have loaned him then I can see Madrid maybe selling Benzema next season or in the summer if Falcao takes off. Either way I think Benzema is the striker Wenger has been holding out for and he is highly likely to move there next season.

Loic Remy at Arsenal would work quite well I think...
