Arsenal v City (Community Shield) Post Match Thread

it was a good start of the season if we would had win it but even so i'm not sad because of that we miss half of the team...next week is the one when the things start to be interesting not now...even if most of the players hasn't played a competitive game for a month or so i'm confident that we will beat newcastle relative easy..after all we're their bogey team ROLL ON nest wek

Our reserves played ok in spells and were a bit unlucky that arsenal scored every time they created a chance. Couldn't give a shit to be honest.

Agreed, only other noteworthy attack was the 1-1 against Sanchez.

We had a good save from Jovetic, a cross which just skipped past Nasri, Boyata header. Pretty sure another 2-3 decent openings as well. Could have been a close game. We were gash in the first half but definitely looked average if not good in the second.

It is a friendly but despite the team I did expect a better performance.

The back 4 was ever going to work with dizzy dedryck at the bag, Yaya and Fernando showed a total lack of energy in midfield refusing to track any runs.

Next week I'm sure we will be welcoming back the big guns. The only positive today was Zucculini. Actually looks better than Fernando.

Where is this "squad in depth" we have?! We probably have the most expensive squad in the premier league and that what was on show today was an absolute shambles

Fuck off you red wanker. Post history tells all....

Flap, flap, flap? No, fuck off.

You're more flappy than Flap Flap McFuckFlap from Flappyland!

Not really mate. I just hate losing and even more so when there is a trophy at stake. When was the last time we lost 3-0? or worse? I feel sorry for the fans who had paid good money travelling down to see us 3-0 down and bringing Micah Richards and Scott Sinclair on. I think Pellegrini is great, but he's not perfect and I think he badly misjudged how seriously to take this game. I just hope he has not badly misjudged how seriously to take the opening games of the season. If we are top of the table by October then I will hold my hands up and say fair enough. Equally, if we are 8 points behind, I will say we brought it on ourselves.

I'd say Pellegrini hasn't misjudged this game, you have, chippy.

What matters is how we do over next 9 months. Resting the big guns is all about that. There are 60 games coming up and this was the 61st most important of the season.

So today we had
Still think it's a big gamble going into the season without the starting line up having a game ---why do we bother with pre-season games?
Willy
Clichy - Boyata - Nastasic - Kolarov
Yaya - Fernando
Navas - Jovetic - Nasri
Dzeko

Next week we'll have

Hart
Sagna - Kompany - Demichelis - Kolarov
Yaya - Fernandinho
Silva - Jovetic - Nasri
Dzeko

That's 6 changes. We're fine.

absolutely this^^^^^ i'm not interested in the result today at all it means nothing. its a season warm up nothing else, a point at Newcastle is worth far more than a win today although three would be better;-)

Bad defending + a real lack of creativity going forward. The former was expected, the latter surprising as we had some capable players in those positions. Nasri says the being booed by the worst, most bitter fans in the world doesn't affect him, but every time we play Arsenal anywhere they can boo him in force, he doesn't perform.

Jovetic was good, Kolarov was useful down the left too.

Pellegrini has tried combinations of Boyata/Nastasic/Rekik in pre-season and there hasn't been a single game where I've been impressed. A temporary issue as we'll have three better defenders soon, but who is going to be the #4 if Nastasic (who I'm still wary of selling as he has a lot of talent, but can he play in this system?) is up for sale and Rekik is apparently close to rejoining PSV on loan. Boyata as #4, surely not.

Thank fuck I didn't renew if this is the shite I'd be watching this season........

Are you kidding?

I think this season's squad has more strength in depth than last season, once the new players have had time to properly bed in, we'll be a major force to win the title again.

I can understand if you didn't renew because of increased costs and affordability issues etc, but not if you think we're not good enough to win trophies or continue to play our new philosophy of attacking football.

Poor performance yes but Arsenal weren't astoundingly much better, they just took their chances. The centre back pairing was never going to hold up against basically Arsenal's full strength team bar Mertesacker, Ozil & Walcott.

Yaya didn't look himself and even a fully fit Yaya struggles to hold it together in a 2 man midfield, offers no defensive protection or stability. Fernando on the other hand will be a very useful player for us.

I'm not phased at all by this, the real game starts next weekend.
