Arsenal v City (Community Shield) Post Match Thread

I'm not sure why people think the big guns will be back for the Newccy game. Pellegrini has already said it's unlikely to happen. It'll be pretty much the same side as today and on that basis I am not confident. Defensive midfield was a shambles today. Clichy clearly can't play right back and Boyata is not good enough. Newcastle will be well fired up and if we don't hit the ground running a defeat is on the cards. The whole preseason defensively has been a shambles. No clean sheets. That needs to be fixed.

It's interesting that the two times the club have won the premierleague they have not really gone into the transfer market to take it to the next level. I'm aware this year is slightly different. But it is a shame.

Our reserves played ok in spells and were a bit unlucky that arsenal scored every time they created a chance. Couldn't give a shit to be honest.

Agreed, only other noteworthy attack was the 1-1 against Sanchez.

We had a good save from Jovetic, a cross which just skipped past Nasri, Boyata header. Pretty sure another 2-3 decent openings as well. Could have been a close game. We were gash in the first half but definitely looked average if not good in the second.

We started poorly because our third choice back four kept giving it away. But then we got on top and should really have equalised when they got a breakaway goal. From that point on we dominated the game without ever really pulling up trees. To be honest that's going to happen when you have centre halves who aren't good on the ball, and a left back at right back. Whenever we played through the players who should start against Newcastle-silva, yaya, jovetic, we created openings.

All that matters is how we do over the season. Today was a Mickey Mouse game.

The worst thing about watching this game wasn't the performance or the score, it was a horrible reminder that I have to suffer that prat Owen prat-ling on for another season. Had to go and have a beer to steady myself. Right at the start he thought he said he was underwhelmed or something that we hadn't been bigger in the transfer market. What's that all about? What players does he think we should have signed and why? And he gets paid for delivering this meaningless crap.

Our attack looked very average because we had Clichy playing on the right. He doesn't have the confidence to overlap against big teams and whatever came off the right was through Navas. Hence we kept on going to Kolarov to put those crosses in and it became a bit one track.

How can you compare the 2 windows? It's clear we have improved with each signing this season.

Unless you are a complete fucking idiot and can't see that. If that's the case fair enough

The club should pay for every fans ticket - that game was just taking the piss.

That better be a joke.

Jesus fucking Christ.

Some of us knew better than to waste a day trekking down there.

Where is this "squad in depth" we have?! We probably have the most expensive squad in the premier league and that what was on show today was an absolute shambles

Fuck off you red wanker. Post history tells all....

I disagree looks like a blue to me, albeit a negative one. Here is one example of a pro City view......

Re: Sunderland post match thread
Come on guys have a bit of faith...

someone was 8 points clear with 5 to go not so long ago... what happened then?

I'm so glad none of you lot work at city As you haven't got a fucking clue. Yes we where shit but some seen to think it's permanent. Willys at fault for 1 goal so therefore will be shit all season, fernado misplaces a pass therefore will be shit all season. The same applies to every player who made mistake/ had a bad game. It happens every year so you'd think you'd fucking learn. So dramatic it's unbelievable, Although I think some are on a wind up. They must be! Also why Is everyone worried about the players being match fit for the weekend? Have you ever heard of inhouse games??? Just because it was the last recognised pre season game doesn't mean the players who didn't play today won't be ready.

The only player who most likely won't be ready will be mangala.
