Arthur Labinjo-Hughes

That line about the jury is really, really horrifying. Makes you wonder what they witnessed.

EDIT: Should probably include what I was referencing:

"Following the verdicts the jury asked if they could hold a minute's silence for Arthur, which they were allowed to do. They were also excused from sitting on another jury for life."

Home-schooled kids aren't checked on, there isn't an agency that carries out that role in the UK. They would only be visited by social workers from children's care if someone reported to them to the hotline or someone with safeguarding duties contacted them.

By taking them out of school and avoiding medical care and avoiding social clubs they would have avoided the orbit of most of the safeguarding apparatus.

The genuinely evil parents are usually much better at deceiving authorities and covering up abuse e.g. Baby P(eter)'s mother and her boyfriend using chocolate to cover up stains.
Yes agree with you - what I am saying is there should be someone in that role within the education authority checking on home schooled kids.
When I managed a children's home we always had a drop in referrals in the summer (kids here get 10 weeks off school) because on the whole it was teachers / schools who were reporting incidents of alleged abuse more than any other source.

But as someone said, lockdown was a whole other issue for neglected / abused kids

Yes. Not just the fact that it went undetected, but in many ways it probably made abusive parent/carer relationships worse because of cabin fever stress. The BBC article alluded to this.

I think a lot of this kind of stuff starts off as displacement (turning your stress from work, relationship etc and using against a weaker target). Last week I watched Billy Connolly talking about his aunts who took him in after his mother died.

How his most involved aunt did the big gesture of stepping up to plate at the start, but then gave him years of ritual abuse because she resented the change it had on her life and independence.

What's worrying me, is that clips of Arthur's abuse have now been played by various media sources, today. These clips (whilst obviously harrowing) are probably the "weakest" that the general public have been subjected to. There were probably MUCH worse.

It's obvious that police/social services had the house "bugged".

WHY THE FUCK HAVEN'T THE POLICE BROKEN THE DOORS OF THAT HOUSE DOWN, THE MOMENT IT BECAME OBVIOUS THAT POOR LAD WAS BEING HARMED, or did they only check the recordings fortnightly?

Heads must roll for this...I doubt they will though.
The two main heads that SHOULD "roll" are the sad excuses for humanity that were classed as that boy's parents. In circumstances like these, the death penalty SHOULD BE MANDATORY

Its not anywhere long enough is it?! The only saving grace is child murderes get a torrid time in jail. Huntly has been attacked several times and slashed across his face. Mercer the scouse gang leader who murdered the Jones lad was beaten severely the first week he was in prison. These two dispicable low lifes will get the same treatment.
For me the only thing that brings any solace is them being inside wondering every day is today I get stabbed/slashed/blinded.........and that me showing them more mercy than poor Arthur ever got

To be honest I can't bring myself to go in depth and see/hear too much as its awful just awful but you do wonder why something more wasn't done.
