They think that leaving the EU is like building the Millennium Dome or building HS2 or even building the Scottish Parliament. Come up with a figure and then as the weeks go by start adding a zero to the end! So we end up paying ten times more for leaving than had we stayed.

I can just imagine getting an email from Danny Wilson were I not to renew my ST.

Dear Mr Ewing,

We see that the deadline has passed for renewing your £420 season ticket at Manchester City. You will now be required to pay £4200 for not renewing.

Yours sincerely,

DW
Interestingly, those 'projects' you mention, where the number keeps going up, will have had a large amount of input into their negotiation by government or their representatives. Same people we are about to let loose negotiating the most important deal of our lives......

Tax and Spend Theresa in that article is filmed out "campaigning" in an empty factory in Cornwall. Its a fucking joke - she wouldn't know a real person from a stick.

Bit disappointing that is the only message you take away from an article which is quite telling.

A number of diehard Remainers on here simply cannot it seems look at things through any other lens than to slag off.

This is an article that could/can provoke all sorts of discussion and all you can point out is the location where May was being interviewed

Haha!
Like getting a bill from your local when you've been abroad for a fortnight.
''Dear AC, We enclose a bill for £100 for your non attendance, as we had hired extra staff on the strength
of what you pour down your neck on a regular basis.''
''Oh, and if it's not paid by Friday it goes up to £150.''

It clearly states in that supplied link that there are 102,000 EU citizens claiming benefits which he edited his post to show. Also the same paragraph in the pdf goes to show there are no British on European benefits. (Which I find hard to believe however) You can't shoot the messenger for using an extract of an up to date European study (march 2017) commissioned by the beloved European Parliament.

Please cut and paste the relevant paragraph that says "It clearly states in that supplied link that there are 102,000 EU citizens claiming benefits which he edited his post to show. Also the same paragraph in the pdf goes to show there are no British on European benefits."

It's not what the paragraph I'm looking at says: "The number of EU27 citizens living in the UK at the end of 2016 is estimated at 3.35 million. The largest number are workers (2,002,000), compared to pensioners (223,000) and the unemployed (102,000). The number of UK citizens living in EU 27 countries is substantially less: 1,217,000, of which 400,000 are pensioners, with remainder being workers and their dependent families, and students.”

So you and gelson's dad equate "unemployed" with "on benefits" and assume all "workers" are currently employed.

to be honest as the "campaign" progresses I am able to highlight a number of empty factories and press free zones she visited. Personally I think the fact that our PM can hide away from us all for 6 weeks and just spout two slogans and think that justifies a win and a mandate for whatever she wants is an affront to democracy. I don't care who Labour puts up her absolute duty is to come out and speak directly to the press and the electorate stating plainly what all her plans are to show the ticket she is running on. Instead its like a banana republic.

How on earth do you think it's banana republic like? It's an election, if you don't like her, vote for someone else. Everyone has that option too.

The stats come from the ONS surveys as shown in the footnotes. Do I have to link those for you too or do you think you can find them yourself?

As discussed on the election thread, May keeping it all down to sound-bites and not putting herself in a position where she gets drawn into offering definitive positions, which will be hostages to fortune, is simply sensible electioneering from the position of the Conservatives and ahead of the Brexit negotiations.

Very frustrating to those that hold your views I accept – but why on earth should May come out and play the 'game style' that you/Corbyn would want.

Meanwhile, back on topic, that article did demonstrate that Belgium is another country – there are several – that are starting to get more than a bit nervous. They will have been assured by Tusk et al that the UK will be cowed, but are now starting to get anxious.

You're right, Ignorance Is Strength...

As it happens, I had looked at the ONS surveys and tried to find the source, but failed.

If you've found chapter and verse in the links, I'd be grateful if you'd save me the time and give the supporting evidence. The ONS may do employment / unemployment stats - but not who's claiming benefits.

Anyway, it's all a bit peripheral if all you want to do is get rid of foreigners.

How can the EU declare the 'exit bill' has been worked out "on sound accounting principals" when they have been unable to get their accounts signed off for years?

Also, if we were a net beneficiary instead of a contributor to the EU would they be rushing to pay us billions as fast as they are trying to extort money from us?

Somehow I doubt it.

Yet more reasons to leave.

The British working class has spoken. We are leaving. Not a moment too soon.

You see that is another example of the cheap posting I have referred to - it is pure distraction and offers nothing in substance.

I post:

"May keeping it all down to sound-bites and not putting herself in a position where she gets drawn into offering definitive positions, is simply sensible electioneering from the position of the Conservatives"

That is a simple FACT of how the Conservative Party have decided to play this campaign out. They see nothing of benefit and possibly significant risks to play it differently such as entering into debates to make definitive statements

You and others might not like it - it will certainly frustrate you but my observation, given how things are unfolding, is self-evidently accurate and therefore adds something to the thread.

Your, lets be generous and call it a response, offers fuck all - it is just childish distraction - you do so much of it.

Agree completely , they are crapping themselves hence the silly leaks. May said no deal is better than a bad deal for exactly that reason.

the remain camp should have pushed more on this divorce bill of €100bn as part of there campaign. It does make sense that we honour our commitments (albeit we will have no say on direction) but surely this should have been pushed at the time.

I absolutely agree. Given there is a 100bn leaving bill being talked about, if that was lawfully and obviously the case it should have been disclosed/used by remain.

Me thinks its just bluster as this would have been gold dust to the remainers.
