I don’t think our defence is actually the slowest when players are fit and available. Khusanov, Gvardiol and Ait Nouri are all blessed with pace. The problem is the defenders filling in aren’t. Dias, Stones and O’Reilly aren’t blessed with the same pace.

Ait nouri and Gvardiol aren’t particularly quick, Khusanov and Nunes are, but neither are right backs.

The defence is a mess let’s be frank.

This is where a Rayan Cherki will help - Erling has plenty of pace but as an example I can't remember a single pass to him tonight from Bernie or any of the centre midfielders - we need players capable of playing the unexpected pass. Doku also has pace over the first ten yards but again we got the ball to him when he had 2 men on - going forward to win this competition we need to release our forward players quicker. Once again it was all too slow. Get that right and we would batter this type of side.

Nico actually got the ball so good challenge for me. VAR didn’t need to get involved as it wasn’t clear and obvious but I can guarantee that at the other end of the pitch we would not have got that decision.

The whole clear and obvious thing seems to be a bit of a myth at this point. It’s open season on re-refereeing the game now

Calming down a bit now ha! Let's be fair though we miss Kusanov mainly for his pace because that makes a huge difference to how we defend as a team - Ruben and John have lost so much pace it's a bit of a worry. Having pace also stops the quick transitions - too many times in that second half we let them rush down our right side at will and then didn't have the ability or pace to utilise the space behind that when they lost the ball.

Then further up without Cherki and to an extent Marmoush to come on and press our right side attacking is pedestrian and our weak link in creative terms. Tonight we relied too much on Phil who was ok but his final pass was a little off, especially to Erling who hardly had a pass played to him - crazy because Dier is shit and we didn't capitalise on that enough.

All will be better when those 3 are fit - assuming of course Pep picks them.

Yeah a point not bad and we will do get top 16 next season a miracle if we get top 8

Gvardiol isn’t quick and Alt Nouri isn’t either. Khusanov is obviously rapid and Nunes and O’Riley have pace.

I still think in this instance it wasn’t dangerous, he was in front of the attacker, he got the ball and it was fairly soft contact, more ankle than foot

But none of those criteria matter, do they?
