Definitely not. North Mancunian and proud of it.
I know some **** who is ashamed of where he's from though. He grew up round here with me and whilst I chose the school - work route, he went into the military. Went to some college in Nottingham and then onto Sandhurst. He described himself as being from a village not too far from Saddleworth to his new, posh fuck mates, rather than saying he was from Moston, Manchester. He felt it sounded more well-to-do. Since then he's also said how he would never be able to bring himself to drinking with the people he grew up with, because we're not on the same level as him. What a cock. We're convinced he now uses words like 'chap', drinks port and smokes cigars in his study, possibly whilst listening to Mozfuckingart.

I have always found it a little peculiar when people are ashamed of where they've come from, especially if it's somewhere relatively poor. Surely that should be a thing to admire?
My first few months on this earth were spent in a flat in Miles Platting, until my mum and dad moved to leafier pastures and it is a fact I always remind my younger brother of when trying to make a point. I also point to the fact that I was born in the old St Mary's on Whitworth Street as oppose to the current one where he was born or the "suburban St Mary's" as I refer to it.
A large chunk of my close friends are working-class people who have done well for themselves and none of them have anything but pride in where they've come from. The idea that they wouldn't seems utterly absurd, to me at least.
Quite frankly I wouldn't have any time for anyone who had any sense of shame of where they've come from. I don't surround myself with mentally weak, insecure people and what else can you describe such people as?
