Ashes 2017/18

You’ve been right about pretty much everything this series to be fair.

its not rocket science when you tour the ashes in australia its always been the same and pace and bounce and spin just like when they tour the ashes in england they hate the swing and seams and its only when they had that great team from late 80s to the late 90s they could bowl and bat on anything and england was just england

always loved the ashes over there and some great stuff back in the day and sneaking the radio in bed with the ear piece was great and loved staying up

Australia picking Bancroft who can't make runs, M Marsh who is useless anywhere not the WACA and Bird who can't take wickets. Then on top of that, poor fielding and bowling continually short to the English tailenders without the pace/intimidation of Starc. It's like they want to lose.

Now Khawaja gone. Been useless this series. How the f are Australia up 3-0!

England had plenty of opportunities to win the previous test matches but crumbled when it mattered most. There’s not a lot of difference between the two sides. Both got half decent batters with a few world class ones. Both bowling attacks suit their home conditions, that’s what has decided the series.

Both sides now would struggle to win any series over at least 3 tests against any side bar the West Indies away from home.

Neither team fills me with much confidence that they will be a force in the next few years at test level.

England's bowling attack still relying on two 33 plus players who they have to replace in the next year or two.

Two very average sides it must be said hence the series could go either way depending on luck etc.

Without Smith Australia would have struggled to win this series but he is a very ordinary captain as is Root.

There isn't. The side that prevails is the one that gets it's shit sorted best, and that has been Australia. Even when England are clearly on top, my association with City over the decades immediately makes me think of an immediate disaster just around the corner!

the difference between both teams is the conditions and we are daft sending over swing and seam bowlers and a part time spin and just like them over here they are daft sending over pace and bounce bowlers in english conditions we have won the last 3 home ashes and lost the last 3 away ashes over there that saying conditions suited for the home sides bowlers

It’s the last 2 away series we’ve lost over there. This one and the last one. The one before - 2010/11 - we won. We’ve won the last 4 Ashes home series - 2005, 2009, 2013, and 2015.

yep got my wires crossed

but its down conditions and the daft ECB sending over same old crap??? we have to learn about playing cricket in all conditions and have the right tools to win games when touring its not rocket science the home test teams will produce wickets to suit them and give them the best chances of winning just like the home test in the uk we like to have the best pitches for seam and the conditions are perfect for swing bowling so you should just know where your playing cricket and what type of bowlers are needed

It is more daft from our point of view because they can still swing the ball and at pace you can always take wickets with yorkers or shorter balls. That is why in England it is close amd over there largely one sided. We need to take the right players. Our batting lineup has stood up other than Cook and Root really. And then Broad has been below par as he has all year (pre-4th test), Woakes is just back from injury, Moeen has been poor with the ball but we needed him to fill Stokes' shoes as an all rounder and bring in a spinner anyway. Should have gone for someone like Plunkett. The side we won over there with was with Tremlett and Bresnan. That attack had height to generate bounce and ability to bowl yorkers.

McGrath proves you do not need to be 90plus mph to take wickets in Aus. We just had too many batting amd bowling below par. Stokes was a huge loss. He can bowl yorkers and have a match winning spell with bat or ball. Instead in good positions our best batsman failed and our bowlers didnt do the right things.

That has been the difference.

20,000 men at the ground and the male tv viewers just groaned in solidarity as that cricket ball hit his bollocks.

Have to say the pitches in Australia ain’t good for test match cricket utter shite! Should prepare wickets that will last for around 3 days it will make it more entertaining
