Ashes to Ashes

Just watched it again on the BBC website.

It is even better the second time round. Glenister's shock at the grave site was brilliant acting, and I honestly didn't realise he had that in him. And the last 10 minutes or so at the Railway Arms are incredibly sad, but also uplifting.

I am really going to miss those characters. It felt like saying a final farewell to friends.

-- Sat May 22, 2010 8:27 pm --

And a bloody great review of the final episode here;

Thats a great review so thanks for posting. I also agree about saying goodbye. I've enjoyed the adventure so much I'm gutted its all finally over. I'd worked out most things but never thought the body in the grave would be Gene though.

Right from the start of Life on Mars its been a terrific story.

i agree, when alex found genes body and gene only remembered he was dead then at that moment, it was a different part of acting we've never seen before from him, was bloody good!

also when he saw his reflection of himself as the young copper in his office door near the end, he looked puzzled, so maybe he'd already forgotten the story of how he died again.

did anyone also spot when keats was kicking him on the floor in the department, for a moment he turned into the rookie he was, it was for about 2 seconds.

Yep, I noticed that too. I think it was done to show how vulnerable Gene really was, and how nasty Keats was. And how the divide between the two Worlds was quite fragile really.

Then again, I thought you didnt go to heaven after suicide.

is this the little known 11th commandment...."thou will not go to heaven if you commit suicide"?

I was thinking the "thou shalt not kill" might fit he bill....

I think most are reading to much into this.
Bottom line as I see it is this.
Manchester = Heaven
London = Hell
:)
or given the constant references to "pub"
Manchester beer = Heaven
London beer = Hell

Watched the last episode last night, thought it was fantastic end to a fantastic story, Gene Hunt is a legend, dont think we will ever see a show like this again for a long time.
