The elbow yesterday was a joke. Slow motion and deliberate. Had it been the other way around, we know what the decision would have been
On the tv replay you can see theres 3 clearly separate parts to it.1. He turns his head and sees Zaba coming 2. He lifts his elbow to near shoulder height (shows intent, it's not a hand off) 3. He slams his elbow into zaba's face. That's a deliberate assault, pure and simple. You wouldn't get away with doing it in front of a police officer, fuck knows how you get away with doing it in front of a referee (replay also clearly shows oliver sees the entire incident)
There's another key part to this which fits after part 2 and before part 3. Bog brush leaves the ball and makes a significant move sideways/backwards towards Zabba. That's the moment it becomes deliberate and cynical.

In fairness it's obvious Welbeck tripped into that foul
The trip was irrelevant.

Wellbeck is not a dirty player but that tackle was the very definition of reckless and was horrendous.

The crowd grimmaced and i feared the worst.

Still angry now.

Re: Assault, leg breakers and elbows.

Fellaini should be banned, Welbeck should have got a red also.
There was another bad one on Zabba i think to, forget which thug it was that did it.

Jones lead with the elbow challenging for a header and connected with his head, nowhere near as bad as bog brush's though.

oh come on, he tripped over and slid on the very wet surface into Zaba with no ability to pull out or stop himself, it wasn't an attempt at a tackle, and yes it ended up nasty but where did you really expect a guy who tripped over to go?

By all means send him off for being crap, which he proved by tripping himself up, but that wasn't a red card tackle.

Fellaini's was red all day long and Rooney should have been booked, but Rooney, like Gerrard, because he's English and has stature gets let off.

The scariest moment last night by far was near the end when Vinnie won the ball and the ref gave a foul against him, because it was the dread of another red card for him but thankfully the ref had an ounce of spine left.

Welbeck should have a yellow for his shit control!!! His over running the ball and falling over his own feet into Zabba should be a yellow too. 2 yellows make a red.
As for Fellaini, he's just a coward.

What makes me proud as punch today is not only did we beat them easily and could of had 5 or 6 but the fact that our players and club officials have dignity. I don't want to see our players surround the ref - like Rooney does - Christ he seems to think he's the referee at times (half time constantly in the ref's ear, questioning EVERY decision) It would have been easy for the team to lose their heads given the vile tactics of Fellani and co last night but instead we just beat them by fantastic football. Silva never moans or stays down trying to get someone in trouble same for Zabba who would have been excused in trying to get revenge. Manuel has to take a lot of credit as he too acts in the correct way. There has never been a better time to be a blue and sooner or later the media will catch on to the fact that our club and ownership do things the right way.

SPOT ON!

The referee was a disgrace last night. welbeck and fellaini both given yellows for red card offences, fellaini had already comitted a yellow card offence but no yellow was given, both players committed at least a couple of more fouls each after their yellows. rooney got nothing for a challenge exactly the same as one that Fernandinho got a yellow for and Vinnie was booked on his first foul. If he isn't dropped for giving a yellow to fellaini when about 5 yards away then there is something very wrong. If Mike Dean had been reffing I honestly think they'd have been down to 9 men and lost about 8-0.

And just to top it off, after each incident our player HAS to leave the pitch. Leaving US a man down whilst the rags just play on. ??????????

Re: Assault, leg breakers and elbows.

A red card? Marouane Fellaini's elbow wasn't even a foul, says David Moyes

Moyes admitted he hadn't properly seen the incident but that his first impression was that Fellaini had simply backed into Zabaleta.

The Scot admitted there may have been more to it given the reaction he had heard from others, saying: "I've genuinely not seen it again.

My first feeling is it wasn't even a free kick

"My feeling at the time was that he's just back into the player and there's nothing in it."

Moyes' views were contrary to fans and pundits alike who roundly condemned Fellaini and labelled him lucky to remain on the pitch.

If this is taken from his interview with SKY, he actually said that he hadn't seen the incident again, and was surprised because SKY always show him, but from where he was it didn't look a foul.

Its hard to argue with any of that, at first showing I was surprised that Fellaini was booked so quickly, only when they showed the replay was it apparant that it had been an assault. Oliver has no excuse other than "bottled it" and Fellaini should get a retrospective ban.

Wellbeck on the other hand tripped then slid, and yes it could have been nasty, but not a red card for me.

Oliver seems to have come in for a lot of stick, mainly because of these 2 decisions, but I actually thought he had a pretty decent game apart from the Fellaini incident, and a couple of other minor things, such as the Rooney non booking, he let the game flow, and for most of the game he went unoticed, which is always a good trait for a referee in my book, rafael should have also got a booking for a foul on Silva, but the game didn't stop for about 6 or 7 minutes after that, and to go back that far to give a yellow is probably too long.

To be fair the game didn't need much refereeing, I thought it was played in a very good spirit (apart from the thug), by both teams.
