He slipped. It was incredibly dangerous, but it's hard to ascribe any malicious intent. I'm not really wanting to watch a sport where people can't run at top speed after balls because they're liable to be sent off if they slip on wet grass.

I mean, he's a red and I'm ecstatic if he gets sent off, but unlike Fellaini I think the ref probably got that one right. A red would have been harsh.
It was [ to use a referee`s term ] Reckless and out of control. Therefore a straight red. If you watch the replay as Zabba is clearing the ball with his right leg, wellbeck clatters into his left leg [ standing leg ] Dangerous play.
The " malicious intent " comes because wellbeck overruns the ball and lunges out of control into Zabba`s standing leg.
As for fellainis assault i dont think that needs explaining, just a straight red no question.
He slipped over, its not a red.

WHAT !!!!!!!!!!!! ?

Moyes admitted he hadn't properly seen the incident but that his first impression was that Fellaini had simply backed into Zabaleta.
If this is taken from his interview with SKY, he actually said that he hadn't seen the incident again, and was surprised because SKY always show him, but from where he was it didn't look a foul.

Its hard to argue with any of that, at first showing I was surprised that Fellaini was booked so quickly, only when they showed the replay was it apparant that it had been an assault. Oliver has no excuse other than "bottled it" and Fellaini should get a retrospective ban.

Wellbeck on the other hand tripped then slid, and yes it could have been nasty, but not a red card for me.

Oliver seems to have come in for a lot of stick, mainly because of these 2 decisions, but I actually thought he had a pretty decent game apart from the Fellaini incident, and a couple of other minor things, such as the Rooney non booking, he let the game flow, and for most of the game he went unoticed, which is always a good trait for a referee in my book, rafael should have also got a booking for a foul on Silva, but the game didn't stop for about 6 or 7 minutes after that, and to go back that far to give a yellow is probably too long.
To be fair the game didn't need much refereeing, I thought it was played in a very good spirit (apart from the thug), by both teams.
When all the emotion and adrenaline have gone, I'd agree with pretty well all of that. I've always thought Oliver was one of the better young refs.

Bottling the Fellaini red was very poor, as was failing to book Rooney after he'd booked Fernandinho for a similar offence, just minutes before. But overall we saw very little of him, which is the way it should be.

Just because the ball stays in play for 6 or7 minutes it does not make the offence any less. It would have been seen by many , myself included, as great refereeing to go wave play on and then go back to the incident and deal with it.

totally agree, think there is a fair bit of paranoia on this thread.

We've got away with plenty of decisions at home this season

Yeah we go round elbowing people in the face & lunging into their standing legs all the fucking time.

Sniff, sniff. I smell RAG.

Re: Assault, leg breakers and elbows.

You can't be face on with a clear view 12 yards away and not send someone off for what Fellaini did, he is either inept or lacks mental fortitude.
Not much consistency imo either.

Not that arsed but it should be noted at least the Fellaini one demands some sort of action.
Bottling it or however you term it is not a trait you want in a ref, this should be simple for anyone to understand.

Plenty you say? For every decision we've had going our way, we've had 3 or 4 going against. Its criminal that our team is constantly on the wrong side of the foul count despite dominating possession the way that we do.

People remember the horrendous call against Sterling but forget that Skrtel could've conceded three penalties in the game for his constant shirt pulling on Kompany. They remember that Giroud could've scored had he not been blown offside incorrectly in the second half, but forget that he was offside twice in the first half and wasn't called for it.

Shit happens, but to say that we've gotten away with plenty of decisions at home this season is ridiculous.

Haha, account since 09 and rumbled in your first post 5 years on, no easy feat.

Re: Assault, leg breakers and elbows.

I think the FA need to answer the following:

Why wasn't Fellaini red carded?
Why wasn't Shrek booked for his lunge on Dzeko and why did Oliver constantly allow him to have running conversations with him when he wasn't even captain?

Have a look at the Wellshite foul on Zabba (borderline red IMO) and see who is moaning at the ref about the decision. Have a look at most of the game and see who is whinging about most decisions.
