Assisted dying

Some real tripe being spouted in the media today.
The god-botherers and clueless all whinging about the 'vulnerable' being 'pressured' into ending their lifes.
Well if someone feels that they don't want to 'burden' others surely that is a valid reason and their personal decision?
The 21st century and people still believe in a mythical being and how he would disapprove!

What frightens me is the Canadian model of this, introduced in 2016.
Apparently they are now allowing/thinking of introducing (not sure which) allowing mentally ill people to apply for assisted dying.
An expansion of sorts.

That really worries me :-(

It worries me as well
I don’t know the first thing about mental illness the criteria in Canada is they
“must have a serious illness, disease or disability”
“Be in an advanced state of decline that cannot be reversed, experience unbearable physical or mental suffering from your illness, disease, disability or state of decline that cannot be relieved under conditions that you consider acceptable”

Only experts in the mental health field could possibly rule on irreversible mental decline or even know if it exists. If it’s (a cry for help) we don’t have enough mental health appointments in the UK we are failing patients with years waiting for an appointment.

I have just googled Canada assisted dying and the first 2 'top stories' are negative sky news pieces.
Canada has a very robust and grown up attitude to AD.
The bill to allow mental health solely as a reason for AD has been delayed until at least 2027.https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/health-services-benefits/medical-assistance-dying.html
