Overall a solid start to the season. We could have lost against Newcastle and Palace and dare I say at the start of previous seasons we would have. But despite having won two in a row the team showed they still want to win and fought back. It's not a great start but we usually are slow to come out of the blocks and it's a very good start particularly considering where Liverpool are. Yes we should be a couple of points clear, but there's nothing to suggest any of our rivals will improve, whereas we know City will get stronger.
It's a fairly new style of play we're using at the moment and at times in the first half it didn't work. Winger - FB - CB - CB - FB - Winger and repeat. But when De Bruyne joined Bernardo on the right we had our best moments. First with Walker sliding it into Bernie who then got the ball to Haaland and some lovely football followed with Walker making the wrong decision not to square the ball to Haaland or Foden. The goal came from a Bernie/KDB combo on the right too. We just needed to kill them off with the second goal but couldn't get it, and I don't think the subs were correct (easy to say now). Pep knows it is a long season and with Seville away and Spurs at home to come, it was perhaps sensible to save the legs of Alvarez. I can see him being the key to us beating Spurs. We press them high and they'll be unable to get out as Chelsea showed. We just need to be wiser to their counter attack which has cost us so many times before.
