Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

But it was absolutely fine having the likes of Nunes and Phillips hanging around contributing fuck all for 2-3 years?

There’s literally no universe where having those 2 would have been better than keeping Palmer and Lavia.

The only person taking bollocks is you.
Phillips has been on loan for 2/3 seasons. Nunez only joined last season and doesn’t even play in the same position as Lavia ffs, who has also been injured half the time since leaving.

As for Palmer he was told he was wanted but he wanted out, even on loan, which we didn’t want to do, stay or go he was told, so more bollocks being spouted.

I’m done discussing the players who have left with you and anyone else who’s using hindsight and revisionism to suit their arguments.

The voice of sense reason & facts -

From minute 2 to 45 we were the better team, playing the better football.

1 mistake,1 pass,1nil !!

If Josko had equalised with his header it wouldve been deserved.

Our stats were good,Villa couldnt get out but we didnt punish them from good shooting positions.

For the second half Dick changed things for vanilla but Pep didnt make the changes City needed.

Gundo shouldve been replaced by Jack with Dok or Sav playing left against a full back on a yellow card.

They started to over run us in midfield where Jack could've added pace, power and creativity ( remember notts forest 3 weeks ago).

Subs were needed

3 weak challenges preceeding their 2nd goal

We are NOT relying on this lad to “save our season” you fool.

Who else do you suggest should’ve played rb yesterday ??
Some people are going on like he's the next Iniesta. Hence the save our season remark. The only thing that will save our season is new faces in January.

He's just not good enough IMO. Just look at Villa first goal yesterday. Yes Stones went AWOL but as a RB, covering your CB is first and foremost. He should have read that yesterday and made an attempt to get across. All he did was try and play offside when he Rogers was virtually in his own half.

If we fuck about in the transfer window we will wave goodbye to the European spot!!

The club are fighting a financially disatrous ECL knock out on 2 fronts now, 115 and results melt down. Don't think the timing of 115 appeals etc could affect 25/26 so we have the chance to sort this shit show out on the field. If we don't make ECL one thing is for sure this will be Haalands last season in sky blue.

1 Would Ake, Stones, Wallker, Bernardo, KDB consider quitting international football now to help the club.
2 Recall Perrone and Doyle from loan clubs. It's amazing what young players can achieve when a coach shows belief in them eg Palmer, Rogers, Lavia, THB.
3 Whoever is responsible for our conditioning and injury rehab need to be seriously looked at, they either need help or replacing.
4 Tactics, "You can do nothing without the ball", well we are proving week in week out "You can do nothing with the ball". The obsession with possession stats over fast, direct aggressive attacking play has got to change.
5 A team with Gundo, Bernie and Rico in it is like the 'Masters (twat) versus the Boys' they have no physicality, no strength no speed, I would only ever play one of them. Gundo only in the last 10 / 15 mins of a game.
6 Pep stop going on and on incessantly about tiredness, fatigue, schedules. You have every fucking thing imaginable to prepare teams for elite sport. Don't want to hear any of that negative mind set again in pressers in interviews or anywhere.
7 We have the best striker in the world, work constantly on getting hin into attacking positions and get the fucking ball into him, eg Nunes cross straight to Haaland for the first equaliser at Palace. Iirc Pep's celebrations were a bit subdued for that goal, definitely not out of the La Masia play book, Cruyff spinning in his grave, tut tut
8 No matter how far we progress in the FA Cup, certain players just do NOT get played Haaland, Dias, Akanji, Foden, we just can't take the risk of long term injuries for the sake of the FA Cup. Play the EDS v Salford, maybe add Nunes, Savinho etc if its not enough, so what.
I find it amazing that supporters can question the same tactics that we have had 8 years of success with. We have had 8 weeks of failure , there is no need to question Pep. He will get it right , he always does

I’m still not over yesterday. I think I got over the derby easier because that was a calamity from Nunes. But yesterday to me was because we played bad it was more a lack of effort. When we had the ball ok we weren’t great but when we lost the ball no one wanted to tackle run block foul anything to stop Villa going forward. It was a disgrace

Our transfer policy has been great over the past few years but it seems Kalvin, Doku, Nunes and Savino are poor signings, they just don't seem to fit in. Perhaps it's a good thing Txiki is leaving, he's done a fantastic job but it's probably time for a change.
We effectively 'swapped' Lavia for Philips and Palmer for Doku, lots of us called it out at the time, I checked my timeline and I posted selling Palmer was a monumental bollock dropped. I have really mixed feelings about Txikki,- Rodri, KDB, Dias, Haaland, Akanji awesome absolutely brilliant acquisitions, but Mendy, Philips, Nunes, Managala and Bony probs £250m++ down the pan. Why the fuck did he not at least insist on Alvarez waiting before shooting off to Atleti, maybe that wasn't his call, who knows..

You know, I agree, he's a good lad, but I think they'll all be hurting. This idea that they're not making any effort, or that they don't care, is just bollocks. They can be legitimately criticised on other grounds, Pep too. But not that.
I think the effort is there but confidence is absolutely shot to pieces.
They’re playing on the back foot as a result.
The defensive frailty is a consequence of the constant injury problems for all our centre backs and is exposed by a midfield that gives no protection as we lack a proper enforcer there. There’s no nastyness in the middle of the park.
I’ve always been against making significant signings in January but a quality dm is desperately needed asap…

For the 2nd goal I thought Kovacic and maybe Lewis(?) did actually try to tackle' block or foul Rodgers but were just not physically capable of doing so. :-(

Fair points but Mendy looked the bollocks at Monaco, things went tits up obviously. I wasn't at all impressed with Nunes or Phillips having seen them in the Premier League but I knew very little about Doku and Savino, I'll give the latter a full season to settle in.

Mangala looked superb in his first game against Chelsea but he quickly tailed off, as for Bony, I'd actually forgotten about him, he was shite, along with Jo.

Haaland was pretty straight forward with his assessment.

The players are not doing enough but also they are waiting on Pep to fix it.

I think the last part is worrying.

As a fanbase we are guilty of this also.

The great man has fixed the squad so many times and tweaked when needed but he can’t seem to find a way out. Back to basics and don’t over think but just maybe overthinking and trying something different is needed.

Overthink baldy and tweak the team. 2 months of doing nothing ain’t working.

Time we experimented and if we lose we lose. Not gambling now could be a big mistake.
