Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

For those who want Pep to walk or be sacked, answer this please: what will that actually solve? Does anyone think this squad is capable of going again, if only we had a different manager?

We clearly need to rebuild. So instead of just saying he needs to go, tell us who you want instead. And let's measure them up against the best to ever do it.

He's not absolved from blame. At all. But he signed a new deal when everyone was waiting for him to go. He wants to rebuild again. He's earned the right.

By the way, we performed worse at Villa Park last season than we did today. So I'm not exactly surprised by the performance or the result.

Football is cyclic and teams come and go. Wenger was once golden bollox he in his time changed football and many teams changed too and eventually caught and surpassed Wenger. Wenger refused to change he would not compromise and eventually he became a dinosaur. That will be the fate of Guardiola, football especially the PL is not static, teams adopt tactics year in year out and sometimes from game to game. Simply buying new players to play the same style of tippy tappy shit I can’t see working, so he changes or he goes, doing the same thing is simply not acceptable

I disagree, we become a team that dominated English football during that period. Do you become that team if you are just giving youngsters a go?

But there are also arguments for giving them a chance to show their capabilities.

Of course the usual fuckwits would slag them off if things went pearshaped, but we might just find a bit of fight, pace and enthusiasm in a difficult spell.

Not playing them just gives the impression of not believing in them imo.

The thing I hope we don't get from Pep after that second half performance is "we played great and I am very pleased with them. Rico was top and Kyle & Manu played after so many minutes and injuries they are fantastic"

Don't want him to throw them to the wolves but my word some of them were actually shocking today. Never mind losing to top sides but gifting teams who are in indifferent form is something else.

That high-line defence pep’s insisting on is football suicide with the midfield we have, & yet it continues week in week out, fuckin mind boggling
This 100%. No pace , guile or steel where it’s needed. Too many played today like they don’t give a shit.
We looked rushed, panicked when harassed on the ball. Too many wrong options, all too predictable.
Changes are needed and quickly.
A refresh of the squad has not happened quickly enough.
