Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I don’t get this anti Rico stuff tbh , not as talented as his peers , he never stops running for this club , wipe your fannies and point the finger at other players - who to be frank are doing fuck all week in week out , I’ll not name them , but any blue with half a fucking brain should be able to work it out. Lay off the lad , at least he has energy, the bare minimum for our team - and Pep can see it.
He is championship quality at best. I could run around the pitch like a dog busting for a piss.
If we are relying on this lad to save our season we are well and truly fucked. He is weak in the tackle, doesn't make a killer pass and is tactically all over the place!!

I find it so daft that fans are arguing against the need for Pep to change things & be pragmatic with his strategy, selection & tactics based on the players available. I don't think that Pep needs to go or to change his principles indefinitely, but to think he should persist as is, with the same players unable to play as he wants is absurd. He should adapt & change how we play, change the personnel, to make us harder to beat, UNTIL HE GETS THE PLAYERS AVAILABLE TO EFFECTIVELY PLAY HOW HE WANTS. Whether that be through injury recovery or the transfer windows, it doesn't matter - the current, available, squad aren't able to play how he wants and get results, so he should change how we play.
I agree. In the absence of player availability, he can simply stop inverting a cb. Play a straight back 4. Play a bit more narrower with the wingers coming in. Teams know that we play very wide and with our lack of presence, size and most notably speed - we get gutted. At this point, we need to grind. Slow the game down.

If we play Esbrand and Pusey, we can play conservatively around them and not put them into poor decisionmaking. A 0-0 draw is a good starting point and we need to try for it. Hopefully there will be more to play for against Everton but at this point, we need to go back to basics.

Totally agree mate, get back to basics. Quite simply, don't concede a goal for a start. If you don't concede you have a chance of winning the game and have something to build on. We can't keep playing in a way which almost guarantees the opposition - whoever they are - simple chances in every game.

I honestly think that some managers know how we're going to play and they've all pretty much cracked it. Against Everton, sit deeper, protect the back 4 and take it from there and lets' start to play for 1-0 wins. I know it won't be pretty but if you play like that, you will build and learn how to grind wins out and when we get back on form we will be able to go to the likes of Real/PSG etc and grind.

Agree except for one observation we need to start playing for 0-0 especially at home, any 1-0s should be viewed as a bonus, and only achievable with Haaland not on the pitch sadly we cannot support him no fault of his own but we need a grafting work horse not a starving thoroughbred up front on his own

I agree on Haaland, there's no point playing him when we give him no support at all. We would be better off going back to the 4-6-0 and trying to push Gundogan further forward and playing someone with legs behind him. Not sure who, but if McAtee isn't good enough to play for us why do we make space on the bench for him?!

This is satire, a wind-up, yes? Otherwise I can't believe that any footballer, manager, or supporter of any team anywhere at any time would say something this - what's the word? - daft.

Do that stats back up the drop in effort. I know the results do and it looks that way. But am curious to know if the stats back up the lack of effort.

A lot of us are probably thinking why don't we go a bit more defensive or play some kids who have the legs to at least try and stop these goals going in, but then Pep is probably thinking "i've won 4 in a row and a treble with these guys playing this way so why change it? Let's just keep doing what we've always done and I'm sure things will work themselves out" .
I'm not sure putting on the kids in this environment will help our cause at all results wise, although it may make some of our experienced guys think they may have to fight for their place and give them something to prove? I don't know. I really don't know at the moment. We look shot if I'm honest. We just need to somehow win a few matches on the bounce and at least get some confidence back, coz the moment we don't seem to have an ounce of it :-(

The only 2 that seemed to be actually trying was Foden and Lewis the rest seem to have given up.
I think you should add Akanje - he in particular put his shift in - and Ortega.
Lewis put a shift in but was still his very limited self, and - in a team that's performing so poorly - he is exposed as the lightweight that he is.
Bar those 4, the rest were clueless, unfit shite.

I don't think its satire to take a critical look at how we are playing. How the middle seems to be nonexistent, how we do not offer any service to Haaland and, most importantly, how when we are running at our own goal we are a shambles. The quick fix is to play a back 4 with no cb coming up. The first goal today was Stones running up late to intercept, got turned and the chase was on. He keeps his line that through pass doesn't happen.

As for Haaland, the problem we're having is 2 defenders on him in the box. Teams can defend all of our wing passes because they know we will rarely inswing the ball and just rotate it back and forth. Teams will take that all day long because they know they have Haaland covered. I think it would help if we played a 4-4-2. Perhaps put Foden or KDB up with Haaland. Midfield of Grealish-O'Reilly-Kovacic-McAtee. We lost Stones today. Dias is out. Perhaps a backline of Gvardiol-Pusey-Akanji-Lewis. Play narrow. Grind.

Never go full @ChicagoBlue. Unnecessary and persistent use of capital letters in posts can become a habit apparently.

Be it Gundo Walker Bernardo or Stones, they have been part of my life for so many years and have led us to unprecedented success and Ijust hate coming here every single week and rant about how useless they have become. Every defeat hurts and it hurts further more your fav players becoming eye sores.

The board and Pep are more culpable for still depending on them after so many years because they are paid millions per month to forsee what us mortals can’t.

I am okay for even finishing 7th for one season if in this January and summer transfer window we can respectfully bid goodbye to all of them and restart the new era at City with new players.
Ill take 7th now.
