Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

On an unrelated matter. Gotta say, I thought the Villa fans treatment of Grealish yesterday was disgusting. This is one of their own, and actual fan, who could have left them years before he did, and only chose to leave to progress his career and actually win something. Yet they boo, swear and do snake noises to him. Shows how pathetic they are that they could only be bothered doing it at the start and end of the game. Part time haters
That’s the power of the media smear campaign against our club, if he’d signed for the rags or dips he would get applauded. Just like Raz got booed at every club when he signed from the dips.

He won't be hanging around if he continues feeding off scraps, it's absolutely pathetic how this team has suddenly become devoid of any creativity whatsoever. If this slump continues and he continues his goal drought I can see him being off in the summer
And I wouldn’t blame him.

Our wage bill is head and shoulders the highest in the country. Missing out on Europe at a time when we need to invest to rebuild the team is a huge problem.

We can’t lose £100m+ of CL tv money and 6 home games and it not have a huge impact on PSR. That’s without whatever lies in story with 115 !

We are tailspinning to mid table and it’s gonna get worse in the next few weeks.

Thank fuck we picked up points at the start of the season cause I can’t see us picking any more up anytime soon.
I agree we really need to get European football next year but I really can't see that being Champions league. The wage bill should go down if the high earners leave. If's but's and maybe's, it was ever thus.

Would that team of won the treble or 4 titles in a row? It would struggle to get top 4. We can't keep players forever
I don’t think anyone is suggesting they start every game, but rather would be solid, young, homegrown players who could do a bang up job in the side, as needed. And, in some
Instances, would have allowed us to free ourselves of some of the older players, rather than hanging on past the sell by date.

And said earlier, some of them flourished after they left, and hindsight being what it is, it’s hard to know, but a few of them might have been useful to keep around.

Champions League is quite doable! We aren’t even at the halfway mark, have been on the clubs worst run in donkeys years, and things WILL improve as players get fit and reinforcements come in.

In fact, I’d suggest Top 4, getting into next stage of CL and winning the FA Cup are the primary objectives from here until June!

Shows what a bunch of small time cunts they are.
Villa offered to match the salary he got with us.
He left them and won trophies just like Barry, Milner and Delph rather than staying at their shit club and winning the square root of fuck all.

Incorrect, our wage bill is dwarfed by the Rags, around £60m less and even the Chavs by around £6m. Clubs only get around a £100m if they win the CL, it's a guaranteed amount of about £19m playing in the group stage.

If we don't make next seasons CL we'll have significant income from the Club World Cup to compensate but obviously being out of the CL affects acquisitions.

We also have a profit of around £70m to include in budgets, take that into account plus player amortisations over five years and we can potentially spend around £250m on transfers regardless of any fees we receive from outgoing players.

I don't even know where to start picking the bones out of that gutless and disorganised shower, so i'm finishing right now!

( All i will add is that it's just as well for us that Ortega turned up!)

But it was absolutely fine having the likes of Nunes and Phillips hanging around contributing fuck all for 2-3 years?

There’s literally no universe where having those 2 would have been better than keeping Palmer and Lavia.

The only person taking bollocks is you.

Not sure why Nunes keeps getting lumped in with Phillips. Feel thats very harsh on him

I still hope we will it this year,

Finish 5th with shit Rags scraping 4th.

They miss out on CL next season.
Oh, we WON'T be winning it this season, you can be sure of that .... top four could be a possibility IF they can somehow find some winning form after Christmas, but even that doesn't look likely right now.

I have to say fair play to Erling Haaland.
He’s blaming himself for our results according to all the back pages.
It shows firstly a degree of insight and secondly that he still loves this club and it’s manager. It’s an effort to take the pressure off Pep and shows real dignity.
He’s not throwing his toys out of the pram and wanting to abandon ship as many who support other clubs would want him to.
He’s definitely not been at his best and acknowledging this is a sign of his commitment.
Good lad!

You know, I agree, he's a good lad, but I think they'll all be hurting. This idea that they're not making any effort, or that they don't care, is just bollocks. They can be legitimately criticised on other grounds, Pep too. But not that.

I’ve just had an idea for a chant with such clarity it cut through my mind like a soft cheese, and with such genius it changed my way of thinking potentially for ever.

Start playing your heart out (obvious tune);

You’re all of you stars, some fading a way, but try not to worry, you’ll get your pay day.
So score us a goal, and fucking defend,
And start playing your heart out.

Our transfer policy has been great over the past few years but it seems Kalvin, Doku, Nunes and Savino are poor signings, they just don't seem to fit in. Perhaps it's a good thing Txiki is leaving, he's done a fantastic job but it's probably time for a change.

The Palmer one stings when you consider we swapped him for Doku.

The club are fighting a financially disatrous ECL knock out on 2 fronts now, 115 and results melt down. Don't think the timing of 115 appeals etc could affect 25/26 so we have the chance to sort this shit show out on the field. If we don't make ECL one thing is for sure this will be Haalands last season in sky blue.

1 Would Ake, Stones, Wallker, Bernardo, KDB consider quitting international football now to help the club.
2 Recall Perrone and Doyle from loan clubs. It's amazing what young players can achieve when a coach shows belief in them eg Palmer, Rogers, Lavia, THB.
3 Whoever is responsible for our conditioning and injury rehab need to be seriously looked at, they either need help or replacing.
4 Tactics, "You can do nothing without the ball", well we are proving week in week out "You can do nothing with the ball". The obsession with possession stats over fast, direct aggressive attacking play has got to change.
5 A team with Gundo, Bernie and Rico in it is like the 'Masters (twat) versus the Boys' they have no physicality, no strength no speed, I would only ever play one of them. Gundo only in the last 10 / 15 mins of a game.
6 Pep stop going on and on incessantly about tiredness, fatigue, schedules. You have every fucking thing imaginable to prepare teams for elite sport. Don't want to hear any of that negative mind set again in pressers in interviews or anywhere.
7 We have the best striker in the world, work constantly on getting hin into attacking positions and get the fucking ball into him, eg Nunes cross straight to Haaland for the first equaliser at Palace. Iirc Pep's celebrations were a bit subdued for that goal, definitely not out of the La Masia play book, Cruyff spinning in his grave, tut tut
8 No matter how far we progress in the FA Cup, certain players just do NOT get played Haaland, Dias, Akanji, Foden, we just can't take the risk of long term injuries for the sake of the FA Cup. Play the EDS v Salford, maybe add Nunes, Savinho etc if its not enough, so what.

Hi Villa fan here, remember football is very tribal , when players leave and put another clubs shirt on they become the enemy. Most Villa fans I know still love Jack. It’s great to see he has won lots of medals at city. I do think however you have not seen the best of him at city he looks to scared to lose the ball and generally just passes sideways and backwards. Good luck city for the rest of the season you will come good again but Pep will need time to rebuild.

I thought we're not the highest wage bill.

Phillips was a Guardiola signing, recommended by Bielsa. Didn't work out for him but remember at the time, he was playing next to Rice in an England two that looked great. It was worth a punt, especially as we had bid on Rice and Rodri is a vaguely similar player so maybe there could be chemistry there. It's only bad in hindsight, like most things.

I always think there's 2 types of players that we bring in at City. Players who are designed to play 70% of games and players that are designed to play 30% of games. I'd argue Nunes, Doku and Savinho were in the 30% range but due to circumstances such as Bobb, Palmer, Foden going centrally, etc, have graduated early into the 70% range without this being deserved on performances which is why they're catching flak.

City cheered SWP every time he came back after leaving for Chelsea.
