Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Can we just say this loud and clear - Savinho is suspect. But on the left, he is useless. Having him on the left with Bobb on he right - DOES.NOT.WORK. And putting Marmoush on with 10 minutes left is pointless. Why is Cherki and Marmoush not into the game sooner? We had three subs made and two were defensive minded. Why you don't bring on Cherki and Marmoush is beyond me.
You can’t single out savinho ahead of Bobb. Bobb looked like a park player under strict instructions to do nothing other than pass it backwards and try and retain possession.

Savinho is poor, but at least he tried. He had a go at his man and got into decent positions with a shot final ball. Bobb, well I honestly don’t know what he is other than a passenger.

You try and remain positive but as soon as I saw that teamsheet pre match I just knew we were getting nothing. It's just not good enough. A Mish mash defence, weak midfield and nothing upfront, Haaland aside, well nothing good enough to compete at the highest level.
Savinho and Bobb should never be starters in a serious side looking to compete for honours but there they were. Nor should Nunes but we're stuck with him because we didn't buy a right back. Gvardiol isn't a left back but again we're stuck with him if O 'Reilly is injured. Even then he's not really a left back but filling in for one. Stones has been great for us but injuries and age are hindering him. Foden is just not consistent enough to fill the likes of David Silva or De Bruyne's shoes. Too many games he's anonymous. Bernie works hard but is a shadow of the player he was. We haven't really seen enough of Cherksi or Marmoush to form an opinion if they'll help take us back to the top. Sadly we are a top six side atm fighting for top four.

I thought for a team without an attacking bone in it's body we created a couple of decent chances. I think as a risk free performance it was exceptional. If we just continue to work on blindly smacking the ball to no one from wide we'll be fine eventually. Our standards a few years ago were too high and I'm glad to see us back in the pack. Winning and looking good doing it was boring anyway.

So are you the expert ffs
Compared to the gobshites that think we are the team to beat everytime we win but the end of the f*cking world every time we lose, I am yeah.

I accepted last year that we will be a team with flaws for a long time going forward, mostly because of bad recruitment. While the revruitment from january onwards is still there to be judged Pep has still turned us ibto a better side than I expected us to be at this point in the season. Especially if you have ever followed a Pep team (as I assume most on here has) you know they are usually better in february onwards than they are in October. So it is reasonable to assume this will be the case this year as well.

We have a lot to work on, but what we are struggling with more than anything is goals from somewhere else than Haaland. Hopefully this will click into gear, but I think we need to ask a lot more from our creative players

Poor starting 11. Must admit that I'm kind of wondering if yer man Savinho should start another game. He offers little.

There were a lot of ordinary players today and we looked ordinary. Have done for two seasons.

They had more desire, best team won.
Dust ourselves off and onto the next game

Spot on.

The commitment to block every shot by the Villa team stood out against a City team that just was not bothered
Silva just didn't try to block or defend all game and what was our midfield setup, I think the butter and soft if you ask me.

Poor all round, Pep has got to change the wingers' system because both fall into the traps that the other team sets
and it's too easy to defend because our wingers are dog shit, Savinho played nearly all the game somehow ?
i dont get what Pep sees in him and 95% of the city fans can not be wrong.

Poor showing and changes are needed if we are to stay in the title race

This team isn't winning anything this season,

Tell me how it isn't then? Silva and Reijnders in midfield, Nico and Kovacic sat watching whilst we got overran in midfield. Doku sat next to them watching Savinho sleepwalk his way through the game. Half time comes and goes, no changes, brings O'Reilly on, who looked like he was still asleep. It's all on Pep
I was shocked that Kovacic was on the bench. No control in midfield and couldn’t make a 5 yard pass to a team mate without giving the ball away. That was an another really shit performance.
Someone else posted it was just one of those days. No it wasn’t. Too many of those especially away.

Rubbish.

Recruitment has to be blamed. Players not good enough.

Learn from Donna and start again.

Shifting those here will take a while.

Should have let sav go.

Rebuild started with Donna. The rest i can’t take seriously.
100%

Some people are adamant we had a great window, I thought it was just okay. Great window after you’ve won the treble, but after having your worse season in 10+ years it’s no way near enough!

Unacceptable that Performance down to you Pep No motivation whatsoever
Feel as if we will be the victims of our own success for some time now, fucking depressing and i really don't know what the answers are considering how shocking some of the decisions have been another club since the treble and 4 in a row.

Well you can if Savinho is playing out of position. He belongs on the right, if you're going to put him in. And Savinho would go ahead of Bobb on the right. Savinho had two decent shots but he rarely attacks in one to one situations and his finish is non existent.

Not surprising really, we've been shit but just grinding out results.

That today was more of the same shite.

Emery has Peps number, that again today was down to Pep and a complete bullshit line up.
glad someone else said that...despite the results we aint been anywhere near at it.

I think the bigger picture is a lack of quality in the squad....especially in wide positions (wingers and fullbacks)....Reijnders is another problem as well as he is adding nothing.
