Aston Villa (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

As frustrating as it was ,he wasn’t really wasting time though was he?
Don’t get me wrong he was definitely trying his best to take time out of the game as Villa had come to keep it tight and then go for it in the last 10 minutes,
But if you watch it back it’s one of the defenders that invariably took the dead ball and passed it to Martinez ,who then took and age to kick the ball /pass it out of the area?
But by then the ball was in play so he could take as much time as he likes , shithouse tatic by Martinez /Villa but totally legal !
It needs a rule change ,something like unless he goalie is carrying an injury ,he should be the only person allowed to take the dead ball kick ?

Until then ,teams are always going to abuse it
last night..... ball goes out of play for a goal kick - defenders and keeper wait for ball boy to throw them a ball, which they know its not allowed so a defender walks to the furthest ball away, then throws it to martinez. he waits for defender to walk back then throws ball to him to restart play by passing to martinez, only then is ball back in play. all this time ref is walking to centre circle with his back to them, they only start the goal kick when he turns round and waves play on. 30 secs per goal kick.

Without that Edghill penalty there’s a good chance we wouldn’t be here as a club mate. Like, completely not here. Dickov missed his, so it was important the others scored and Weaver did his thing.

That goal by Nunes might get us CL, it might not. But we’ll survive either way.
Of course, that goal had a completely different magnitude. It was great to see Richard Edghill put faith in his own abilities and take responsibility rather than hiding and leaving it to someone else, same thing with the goal from Mattias Nunez yesterday. I think it's the courage to take responsibility that is admirable.

I noticed that bit of time wasting too. Boiled my piss!

I appreciate everyone supports their team in their own way, but he is constantly negative even when we're comfortably winning.
As I've said in another thread, I'm sure there's a section of society that are only happy when they have something to whinge about.
They're only happy when they're whinging!

Imagine if Doku had actually controlled the initial pass. We wouldn’t be here now talking about his superb assist
Yep - have to admit, I was thinking 'oh, for fu..' , then saw that he was clear, so forgave him :-).

That finish was not easy - amazed and impressed by the fact that Nunes had the confidence to take it first time.

I've been taking pops at Doku and Nunes all season, but am always glad for a player to give me the metaphorical finger, if they do it like that!

I tried to explain this to couple of neutrals in the pub last night ,and they just looked at me gob smacked, saying it was a brilliant peice of skill...... He got lucky, but what a superb pass with the outside of his favoured foot.
More please JD!

As for our opening goal....the villa keepers flap made me think of " careless hands '.......an old piss take chant
Iirc aimed at Gary sprake of Leeds utd,..at Anfield,..back in the day.

I did say way back when Nunes smashed that penalty goal v rags at in the wembley shoot out....he hit it with so much venom ..that there looked to be a very determined player ....pleased he has stuck at it,and will give his confidence areal boost.

What helped him was his initial little miss control of the ball when he received it which made the defender half commit to a challenge, and Doku was off past him.
I agree.
Their defender looked as tho he was determined not to allow Doku any space and run at him, the full back had earlier clattered into him with strong challenges the instant Doku received the ball...then the initial mis control wrong footed the big unit.....and Doku was off, brilliant split second reaction to take advantage of a spot of luck.

Yep, the wanker refs are complicit, they know by keeping back to the ball it allows them to waste more time. Soon as it’s City they turn and face keeper.

And if my Auntie had balls…

Games turn on a deflection, a dropped ball, a seconds late challenge…it’s why we play on grass and not paper.

It’s why people LOVE the game! A single once-in-a-lifetime mistake by the best player in the world can completely change the history of the game…as can a piece of unbridled magnificence.

The game can drop you to your lowest lows and raise you to your highest highs, and even those can be determined by your expectations, after watching the game (and your team) for your entire life!

I mean, it was definitely not Agueroooooooo, or even Gundo popping up at the back post, or Yaya putting it between Van De Saar’s legs, or, or, or…but when that Doku cross/pass slid all the way across, past everyone except Nunes, and he slotted it in for his first League goal for City in the 94th minute, did it feel any less than ANY of those occasions in the moment???

Was it “just” a 7 on the excitement scale for you? It wasn’t for me and it wasn’t for Pep or Matheus himself!!

The game turns on moments and the moment Doku miscontrols the ball is one. The moment Desasi gets sucked in is one. The moment Doku realizes Desasi’s mistake and pokes it down the line is one. The moment he cuts in front of Desasi so he can’t get to the ball is one. The moment Nunes chooses to raise his arm for the ball from way beyond the back post is one. The same second when Doku looks up and sees no-one really free but chooses to slide it across the goal with the outside of his right foot, right across the 6 yard line, is one. The moment the Villa defenders decide not to lunge towards their own goal for the ball is one. The moment Nunes sees the ball get through to him and hits it is one. The moment it hits the back of the net is one.

ALL of those individual moments, that happened within about 5 seconds of our lives, created a moment that created the same kind of rush of ecstasy that those other massive moments created in their day, and it will live long in the memory if it really does give us the extra 2 points we needed to get into the Champions League!

But, then life is a long series of “Sliding Doors” moments that helps make it the experience it is, with something new, exciting, and fun…or life-changingly devastating… just a second away.

Carpe diem and enjoy the ride, because when the Carnie pulls the lever and it’s time to get off, you won’t find another sixpence in your pocket to have another go!

It’s certainly been a waltzer ride watching City for the past half century and more, but this last decade has felt like he shouted “The louder you scream, the faster you’ll go!” and we all screamed together!

Let’s enjoy each moment, enjoy the ride, and scream as loud as we can when we want to go faster, because we only get one ride on The Waltzer of Life and this Fair doesn’t come around too often, and for some, it will never come around!

I, for one, am loving the ride! I’m glad I saved my sixpences for 44 years, because it has been made all the sweeter by waiting so long for the Fair to come to town!

Just watched the highlights. Dias' slight touch, which gets villa a penalty was looked at by var. There's a City corner which Dias takes a shot and it goes out for another corner. Gvardiol and Silva are being "man handled" but that's OK, it's not enough for var to step in.

Wrapping your arms around someone and deliberately stopping an opponent to attack the ball is OK?
