Atletico (A) - Post-Match Thread

I said earlier in the week how good it would be to out shithouse these twats on their home boy turf, and so it came to be. Fantastic to see those Madrid players get a serious dose of their own horrible tasting medicine.

Also, as much as I like to see a ref let a game flow, that is what happens when you don't crack down early doors on excessive force. Ref let the game get away from him. He created the environment for that last 15 minutes. Maybe uefa are the dicks here for choosing a weak ref.

And what is the fucking point of var if a headbutt isn't seen? Preposterous. Almost makes you wonder that they only use it trying to manipulate a result they want.

Great overall performance, though, from the Blues. Can see this result galvanising the squad for the run in.

It was a really mature performance there. Just like our home win against PSG we used their shithouse tactics against them and made them lose it. What a bunch of cunts. Foden knew exactly what he was doing, excellent stuff.

Just like Ferny riling Di Maria last season. If we can manage to keep the intensity and press the fuck out of Real then I really think we can beat them comfortably. But we want to be taking a good lead over there. How they have got past PSG and Chelsea despite being battered at times I do not know!

This is what I don't understand about the VAR implementation. Surely off the ball incidents that the referee has not seen are literally what it has been implemented for?

I like the concept of VAR but it's so inconsistently utilised that it's just incredibly frustrating for supporters.

BT will have white scarves and flags adorning the set in a couple of weeks against Real.

Yes I commented at the time to family that he had rolled back onto the pitch, am sure his ankle was throbbing though. Also amused/ angered me the way the ref kept pointing at his watch to the Atletico players saying 'I'm adding this time on' when they were at peak disruption, he should have been saying carry on and I'll blow for full time.
Especially when Felipe was sent off & fannied around for three minutes, ref should’ve simply said it’s your time you’re wasting but went on to play 12 minutes

I thought City showed great resolve in the second half, despite being totally shit. A great first half settled me but we couldnt find a pass for most of the second. This is where Atletico really confuse me - I understand they have created this almost cult-like atmosphere at the club but they clearly have loads of attacking talent with crisp technical footballers and when they turned it on in the second half, i thought they should have scored really. Ok we left our heads in the dressing room a bit as well but Atletico dont need to succumb to the idiocy of the latter part of the game, but it feels inevitable if the coach acts like some sort of blood seeking cult leader to whip up a constant frenzy.

The passion and noise at the Wanda is something that is basically dead in English football, which makes me and probably many others slightly jealous, but last night their players clearly couldn't cope with the stress. Besides an nasty opening 15 and the chaos from 85+, i dont think the game was that bad, it was just overseen by incompetent officiating. Savic is now the bogeyman - he did completely lose it from 85 on - but Felipe is actually the ringleader.

two hard and proper games of football await in the semis.

And, it's not like the butt came from a player not fully involved in the melee, or on the fringes of the action. It was savic, in the middle of it all, headbutting sterling, in the middle of the melee, in the middle of the picture.
And Ake got the same level of caution for literally holding back Madrid players from doing something else to get a red card.
Var is a farce.
