I actively boo when Foden or Grealish score!

I’m 43. Videos aside, I’ve never seen Bobby Charlton kick a ball. Early huge names for me are Ian Rush and I just can’t see Blues actively celebrating his life.

I grew up hating Nevilles, Beckham etc. I know Blues who don’t follow England at all. Why consider Charlton differently?
Was really impressed by England last week, Walker, Bellingham, Foden, Kane and yes St Marcus of Rashfird all had stormers. For the first time since 1970 think we will go into a major tournament with a real chance of winning it. For someone of my age it is sad when another of the boys of 66 passes away only Geoff Hurst left now. Gives you a terrible awareness of your own mortality, at least after last season know i can die happy. There is fewer of us left now that can say they saw England win the world cup, hope i see it again.

Thankfully I’m one of the few. Remember vividly watching it on a small B&W tv in Bray, Wicklow, Ireland. I hope to see it again, but doubt I will unfortunately

I watched also on a small b&w tv then a few years later or so watched the colour version at the cinema.

Anyone else remember the slow handclap which used to break out now and again in the bad old days at Maine Road, before Sir Joe and Big Mal…

Correct, surprisingly huge numbers.
Drank in pubs in Manchester when England were on and it was always far busier for club football.

You all must know Berts who refused to watch England because of Beckham, Scholes or Rooney? Particularly when we were terrible.

I think the reference was City fans who actually went to England games, not watched in a pub. I supported England, 3 World Cups and 2 Euros. I think more blues supported England when we were terrible, than do now.

I’d probably say that City fans were more active going to England games back then than now.

City used to have a really big England contingent. It’s died down a bit since there’s been more animosity aimed at us from the English press and the Redhsirts yet we’ve had more players in the England squads than ever. But still a healthy number go to England games.

I’ve even got one mate who’s country before club.

I don’t agree with that. Manchester is rammed when England are playing in major tournaments. Way more then when city or United play.

As above there are lots of city fans who attend England games. I know blues who hated the likes or Rooney or scholes, but most are there to support England, not individual players

This was still happening in the 80s, maybe even 90s. It would speed up at the end. It was a protest to say how shit we were playing.

I remember that but I thought it was when the ref was having a bad game & people showed there annoyance by giving the slow hand clap?

God awful shite. pathetic anti- german nonsense england always revert to and he is a class player full of skill not a leg breaker.
‘Breaking ankles’ means when you turn people through skill and they fall over.

Song is shit though.

‘Brimful of Asha’ is by far better.
