Atmosphere - 2023/24

Flat as a pancake first half. But a good atmosphere second half. Was an enjoyable one after the break.

Red Star fans were a laugh, and a miles better bunch than the Dynamo Zagreb fans from their neighbouring Croatia who came a few years ago (thought they’d be a right set of cunts throwing seats and bottles of piss like them but they weren’t at all).

They were singing what sounded like ‘Viva Manchester’ at one point and something about ‘Manchester City, “something-something” City’. They’d also chanted ‘Oh Red Star We Love You’ in English.

And they enjoyed 110+111 joining in with that ‘oooh…aaah…na na na na na na na’ with them. And all holding arms up and going ‘oooooooooooaaaaaaaaaah’.

They seemed not to take themselves too seriously. A lot of other Europop fanbases proper take offence when we take the piss out of their cheerleading malarkey.

SSL1 belted out some decent singing second half n’all. ‘Old Trafford is falling down’ is gaining some traction now.
We'd better get a lick on with the 'falling down' stuff before the second line needs changing.

Looking forward to belting it out later in the season such a shame we play them away first.

For anyone who didn't go last night. I'd just like to correct this completely and utter misinformation. With the exception of a very small section of seats in the top tiers of the CB and West stands, the stadium was pretty much full. Yes there will always be the odd noshows in other seats but that's normal. Whilst I am disappointed that we were maybe a couple of thousand off capacity for an opening game of defending our trophy, to say we were 25k down borders on me thinking you are either a WUM, over anxious or not a city fan.
.

I was in CB level 3, didn't notice many of empties around me.

Did have two student-like types spending more time flirting with each other rather than getting involved in the game

I sit in 327 5 seats to the left empty all game couple sat to my right disappeared at half-time and never came back...

313 was empty suspect unsold away block and there was a huge section at the back of 307/308, but I think these are areas reserved for UEFA same happens in CB3

It's strange up in CB 3 I can hear block 109-111 singing then SS1 doing something else It genuinely difficult to know what SS1 are singing most of the time and they both get drowned out when SS3 starts something different and the rest of the ground picks it up.

First half atmosphere was poor, second was decent for a 1st group game, loving watching the banter with away supporters.

Anyone hear what was said during the silence, thought I heard "F@ck Libya" but not sure.

Whoever started the "we'll buy your club and burn it down" chant again last night needs to give their head a wobble. It gives such a horrible impression of us city fans who are humble and appreciate that only a few decades ago we were in dire straits. We are surely better than that ugly chant
It was a response to them waving money and singing "hate Man City" and another song about us being a fake club. I have a great view of the away section in my seat and I thought their fans were total wankers including the one who screamed "fuck you City" during the minute's silence for North African food victims.

Can see the atmosphere in the rest of the group games being pretty poor tbh. Is what it is, playing the likes of young boys, leipzig and red star just isnt going to bring the same crowd electricity as a game against one of the elite sides would. Although Leipzig are a very good side.

I'm not sure I love the new format from next year, but you can see where they were coming from in terms of trying to make sure there's a more interesting spread of games.

As someone else said though, 10 years ago we would have closed off whole sections of the ground, being one or two thousand under isn't bad all things considered and the atmosphere was a touch better than I expected it to be.
