It's piss poor when you think about it. European champions, relatively respectable ticket prices and yet there will more people against bottom teams in the Premier league
Real Madrid, Dortmund, Bayern and AC Milan include the CL Group Stage home games as part of their season tickets and season ticket prices.

Even Real Madrid have many more of the cheaper-end season tickets than we do and the other three dwarf ours (Bayern 16,000 cheap-end season tickets compared to 1,200 at City)!

As City keep increasing the price of season tickets, the more people drop out of the Cup Schemes because they can’t justify the price on top of the increased season ticket price.

I'll never defend increasing ticket prices but the upside of CL group stages not being included in the price of the ST is that it frees up tickets for that 'underreported' section of the local fanbase who are genuine Blues, but don't have STs/work weekends/and are getting squeezed out of PL games. It's good that you get a different mix of Blues on CL nights like last night. Only downside is that there are too many young people of prime singing age who aren't catching the habit yet. Beyond the SS you could hear a pin drop imo. No complaints, I enjoyed it as ever, a nice night - certainly felt the jeopardy when they scored - but it was one of those nights where I felt we do definitely need two home ends. I went in NS2 for the view but the atmos was so low key I'll have to go in SS1 for Young Boys.

Still laughing at how teeth itchingly cringeworthy that song of theres was last night
“Manchester City, bitty zitty titty, da da da da” or some such
The usual bunch of knuckle dragging fascists in black T shirts down the front, not even watching the game and disrespecting the minute’s silence

I thought at first it come from the east stand before they made more of a scene?

50.2k Isn't that bad for a Tuesday night no matter what the City haters say. Last I checked the capacity is 53.4k since they reduced it for the LED hoardings at pitch side. The away section used to be around 3k seats, not sure what it is now though. If the whole second tier of the away section was returned by Red Star, at a guess that accounts for around 1k of the 3.2k unsold. Just over 2k on City's part isn't that bad.

[edit: More like a couple of hundred unsold, judging by the Dortmund game last season. Which had a similar attendance figure, similar numbers of returned away tickets allocation by the away club see this post.]

Still... for a club that is planning a stadium expansion, who wants to be at the same level as Liverpool and United in stature, we should all want games sold out. It's better for the club which is better for the fans long term.

It's fair to say there just isn't the same enthusiasm for games like this as there is for league games amongst the core support. If it's not a game against a top club or likely to make for an exciting game of football, for many, it doesn't matter what competition it's played in. I find it hard to believe Liverpool and United core supporters would be stoked for a game like this, as much as they dress up it up, and eluogise what a priveledge it is just to hear the music at the beginning.

Maybe I'm wrong but it's probably one of the games the foreign fans snap up because they're waiting to see any game, since there's a lot of them. We've still some catching up to do on that, it would seem. Last season, these games seemed to be selling out because everyone wanted to see Haaland. I was hoping it would continue but if it doesn't it's good to hear about the efforts being made to get ahead of situations like this to improve the atmosphere. It's better than just accepting it, so credit to all of those putting the effort in. I think I can see the end goal there. If you know the atmosphere is going to be good, regardless of how the game is going to go, that would surely count for something.

Only four teams in the first CL round had bigger crowds (Real, Bayern, Milan, Benfica). These clubs had much bigger fixtures and only two of them sold out. City are amongst the best supported clubs in European football no matter what anyone says. When we expand the North Stand we will be solid in the top five. For example Real and Barca rarely sell out CL matches. Barca didn't sell out though they are playing in a much smaller stadium (Olympic) than the Camp Nou at present.

I think some people feel disenfranchised after the Real Madrid ticket sales fiasco. Why would you want to watch us play Red Star and Young Boys now, when you know the likelihood is when the big knockout rounds come you’ll probably not get a ticket?

If City said the knockout rounds will be sold to those who attended all three group stage games first, then drop to people who attended two and then one, before they go on general sale, I’m pretty sure the group games would all sell out quite comfortably.

Arsenal had 59k vs PSV last night
