Neither scenario would be an issue as they are off the pitch and cannot come back on without the referee allowing it, deeming them inactive in the meantime,

But sometimes the referee hasn't given them permission to leave the field they just take themselves off so the physio can treat them.

Haven't players deliberately stood inside the goal too so they weren't interfering with play while their team was attacking?

Thought the 1894 lot gave it a decent whack yesterday at the back of 314, small group but constantly trying to get it going throughout. Rest of SS3 well below par but what can you expect for Fulham at home with no away fans. You’ll have to come back up for a bigger game with a proper away following and try it

Thought the atmosphere was quite good yesterday. I don't go week in week out these days. Took my 14 year old and she loved it.

Yes it was average compared to a really important match, and/or one with some needle but it was okay. If you're close to where quite a few sing regularly it sounds great. If you're watching it on the box or sat in a quiet area of the ground it may have sounded quiet.

I think we've had a lot worse than today, it wasn't the best, it started OK, but we played awful for 45 minutes, and that always has an effect. We then quickly put the game to bed second half, and that often makes things worse too.

I still though it was better today than many similar games.

The Fulham turnout was woeful (it often is), but I live just as far away as most Fulham fans, and had the same train issues, but I still made it, and they only have to come to the Etihad once (ignoring cups), I manage to do it 15-20 times most seasons.
Sometimes or always, you need jeopardy with the result to get the crowd going with a game like yesterday. If it had been 2-2 going into the last 15 minutes the crowd would have responded and found its voice.

Watching the old firm derby and that fcukin drum doing my head in.
Up in 314 yesterday, one of the lads was banging the back of the stand and it just sounded like a really loud clap and suited the singing much more than the deep thud of a drum would.

I don’t think that deep thud of drums suit football songs. They aren’t a good accompaniment to chanting for me, every chant would be better without them.

Old Firm atmospheres were much better with much better range of songs with proper words before both sets of fans had drums and went all Europop.

To be fair jeopardy and tension fuels atmosphere. We’re at a point with very little jeopardy or tension. Atmosphere picked up last season because the 115 lies, performances dropping off after Christmas, and then we had to roar our way to the Treble. Now we’re basking in the afterglow. It’s early in the season, we haven’t really faced top tier opposition yet apart from Newcastle, and it’s comfortable at the top - so comfortable the way some of us are talking about yesterday you wouldn’t think we won 5-1…so it was never going to be a cauldron throughout.Atmosphere outside SS3 - who I could hear from NS2 throughout - was definitely relaxed, sunny and social rather than rocking, but I’ve no doubt the fire will come back when needed. I’ve done my share of moaning about folk who sit in silence for 90mins, but I’m happy to take yesterday for what it was. A good team performance, a nice showcase for the newer, younger and lesser seen lads. We are never going to be like Germans where there is no connection between circumstances and noise, all going well the atmos will build as the season unfolds, as it did well last season.

Good post, think football is becoming more sanitised which will have some good and bad points. One of the main reasons I gave up my season ticket was the 'match day experience' isn't quite what it used to be outside of a small number of games. Just different really.
