Atmosphere 2024/25

Atmosphere from Newcastle fans yesterday was terrible until they scored.
Worse than the atmosphere we have for home games.
Never witnessed the famous Newcastle Atmosphere.
Miggt have something to do with being high up in the gods.
Palace another that gets a mention but anytime i have been they have been average.
Villa park great tonight.Mind you that's from Bayern fans.

Newcastle is great when it gets going but like every other clubs they only get up for the big games. Last night was a huge game for Villa. To be fair I have watched live football for 57 years and it has always been the case that fans only really get going for the biggest matches. That was always the case at Maine Road, Old Trafford, and Anfield. Atmosphere has always been a bit of a myth. The 1980s were terrible for crowd atmosphere. Tiny crowds in huge empty grounds everywhere.

Being away at Newcastle is as close to the away fan expereince that fans have at the ETihad in terms of atmosphere. You can see them on the bottom tier clapping and chanting but can't hear it unless it spreads around the bowl. This is why you get choruses of "Is this a library" from the away fans sometimes exactly as our fans are singing.

The novelty factor.

It’s like when a championship team gets promoted to the PL and they’re a lot louder for the first couple of seasons.
Yep it will quieten down each game, especially when people are having to re-mortgage to go to the fucking games, Bologna at home next has tons of empties cause it's basically 100 quid a ticket.

Don't see the whole fuss about atmosphere myself? Must be the social media generation. All grounds are good on the day, and pretty quiet the majority of the time. It really is that simple for me.

100%.

You see videos of Bournemouth fans in the away ends filming home fans & stadiums and saying how quite they are. Lads, it’s quiet because they’re playing Bournemouth with a 12:30 KO - how would the atmosphere be if you were playing Crawley at home?

Some grounds have slightly better acoustics than others I'd say. The Kop at Anfield is single tiered with a low roof, which always allows for more of an echo than most newer grounds so it sounds a bit better on TV on big nights. Ours is quite open, we have 4 separate stands that don't link so you rarely hear one side from another. It really depends on your stadium layout for me, but the idea some grounds are really atmospheric and others aren't is a load of bollocks. They all have their days.

I also prefer the English atmosphere than the manufactured ultra stuff. I don't really like what they have at Palace or Celtic. Who wants to hear constant noise, it gets annoying and doesn't feel genuine. You want the crowd to ebb and flow and be reactionary, that's what makes English atmospheres unique. It goes quiet for large periods and then deafening for others.

I think the only home atmosphere that I thought was consistently amazing was Pompey when they came up in the early 2000s? But even that was dampened by that fucking bell.

Even that started to dampen after a few years and vanished when they went down funnily enough.
