I know we’ve discussed it before but if you sat down and put together a plan to kill the atmosphere in a stadium then you’d come up with pretty much the situation we have now. 3 separate singing areas, each one not connected to the other. Away fans right in the middle of the three of them. A high roof funnelling the noise away. It couldn’t be worse.

We fucked up as a club when we move to the etihad by ignoring atmosphere and splitting fans up all over the stadium. We made it worse by encouraging a “singing area” hemmed in a small area in the east stand. We had a really easy change to put it right when we extended the south stand but it was ignored.

Now we have the best chance we’ve ever had to bring the singers together with the ability to bounce songs off the roof and spread them instantly in every direction. The way songs spread is inprortant and it’s one of the biggest problems we have. It’s why stadiums with tiers often struggle for atmosphere.

I am utterly convinced that this can be put right easily. We can literally turn all of the above around immediately.

My hope is that potential singers in NSL2 would be able to compliment singers in our current singing sections.

You mentioned how bad having 3 singing sections is, but the worst part is that they're all on the same side of the ground so they can't hear one another.

With NSL2 being on the opposite side of the ground facing our current singing sections, they'll be able to hear the other singing sections more clearly and vice versa, so hopefully we'll see a bit of unison.

Obviously this isn't ideal as I'd rather get everyone in NSL2, but I just don't see people in SSL1 moving, they're too obsessed with the away fans.

Brighton fans were impressive in level 3 today probably one of the best away supporters.
We was awful, so many empty seats around and mostly in STH areas too, city have one final chance to get a decent home atmosphere with the new stand I fear it won't happen

You just know this isn’t going to happen though. South stand is where they want the peasants and away fans. SS3 was thrown up and doesn’t even have enough places to rest your pint. This new stand will be completely state of the art. The best facilities. They absolutely won’t want a load of pissheads in there. That stand is being built for £60-75 day trippers with maybe a bit for existing ST holders. Nothing will change. It’s pie in the sky to think it will.

Very true, but it didn't have the feel of an important game. Walking up to the ground I got the impression fans were doing it out of habit rather than in anticipation.

That's a good observation, thinking about it a lot of people had that 'off to see a poorly relative' look on their faces.

We're not Real Madrid though, we don't just have 8,000 extra coorperates waiting to buy tickets for every game, surely the club know that they're going to need to rely on locals to fill this new stand up.

It's also worth noting that coorperates paying loads won't want to be sat behind the goal up in the gods, they'll want padded seats on the halfway line

Today was.one of the worst days for atmosphere at The Etihad, We'll struggle to create atmospheres with genuine blues being priced out...

I was sat in block 132 today surrounded by tourists, It was embarrassing as fuck some of the shit that was going on.

I’m not sure they’ve thought this one through. They probably got carried away with the idea when we had those fantastic teams and things were going well. Problem is the club took the eye off the ball with the squad and we’re no longer the force we once were which means tourists will be going elsewhere.

They’ll have the padded seats in what is north stand level 2.

Ordinary city fans are starting to realise how little the club cares about them now. Like lots of blues, I’ve had enough of it and I don’t enjoy the match day experience to be honest, whether we are winning or losing.

Again I don't disagree with you at all.

The problem is we're no longer the treble winning hot ticket in town, and there's also a very real possibility we could be playing on Thursday nights next season.

They're playing a dangerous game with how they're treating local fans.

I guess I'm hoping that they come to the realisation at some point that if they do lose all their core supporters, that our tourists and coorperate following is nowhere near big enough to take the slack.

South stand L1 holds 3000 fans.(roughly) That's enough fans to create a constant and decent atmosphere. In reality, there are a few hundred fans singing in the South stand at any one time, when the singing gets going.

The Directors, I no longer say the club, had a final opportunity to create a proper atmospheric home end with the redevelopment of the North stand. The Directors blew that final opportunity. Instead they chose to design and to build a revenue generating home end on purpose. That was their overriding concern, increased match day revenue, not a better atmosphere at the Etihad.

It had the feel of a ‘the season was over weeks ago’ atmosphere. Like people didn’t care about the result because it didn’t matter.

However, this week, it’s been confirmed that Top5 gets CL football next season, and we are 5th. You’d think there’d be some anticipation of the need to get behind the team who need to get the points.

You’re spot on, daytrippers are going to want to be on Level 2 along the sides. They aren’t going to want a bobbins behind the goal view for their £250 ticket or £400 ticket and hotel package.

After his first game when we beat Chelsea he was buzzing with the atmosphere. That was the best atmosphere of the season.

I cannot name you a premier league ground that has a constant atmosphere. It just does not happen. As discussed a million times. The European atmosphere is just a constant, it isn't reflective of what is happening on the pitch. For whatever the reason, in England the atmosphere is always reflective of the game. If the players are playing boring, slow and flat then you aren't going to be buzzing your tits off are you?
