I never thought i'd quit going to the Hammers, first season in 30+ years i've not gone. don't miss it one bit. someone offered me a ticket for Newcastle match last week for free and i still turned it down, rather watch down Pub or home. Travel Cost + shit atmosphere and annoying bellends all around me chatting shite i don't miss at all.

Quite right, you can come on here for free if you want annoying bellends all around you. That's a promise!

We are hemorrhaging local fans mate, the ones we have left are mainly older people.

That is the problem. And not just the fact they are older. Older people clearly are less likely to create an atmosphere, but these are older people that have spent the past ten years really having something to shout, scream and sing about and have seen the club win everything. It's absolutely normal these people slow down enthusiasm-wise.

What the club needs to be doing is complementing the FOCs with a new generation of young, loyal, local and noisy fans. It may not "optimise" revenue in the short-term but it will consolidate it in the long-term. And it will damage United's prospects too.

There is certainly a valid place for one-off visitors but not to replace FOCs as they slow down.

Why don't the club do a free kids upgrade for Leicester, never seems to happen now
Initiatives to attract young Mancunians who will be invested in the club and hand over their money for (say) 50 years is vital for the club if it wants to continue to be MANCHESTER City.....not anomalous City.

The club can introduce these 'foundation initiatives' if it choses, why it doesn't is bewildering.

Yet we take 3,000 around the country every week who are all happy to sing and stand. We took 9,000 to spurs for a cup game last year, everyone was happy to sing and stand.

And every year we end up at Wembley where the majority of our 30,000 fans were singing and standing.

Many of these people may want to be in a singing section at the Etihad, but may not have been able to get seats together in 115.

I'm convinced there are thousands of potential singers all round the ground, who don't because the people around them don't.

Firstly I think, for whatever reason, the vast majority of people behave differently at an away match in comparison to home matches. We see this up and down the country every week.

Additionally for years now people have had the opportunity to migrate to the singing sections but instead have stayed in parts of the ground there familiar with or moved due to lower prices elsewhere (SSL3). So again I just don’t see us having this huge bank of singers.

Personally I think it will be worse for the players if those who replace those in south stand level 1, Kippax corner move on masse as there will be so little crowd interaction. Even little things like the KDB chants when he steps up to take a corner, players running to celebrate goals. Having our most passionate fans stuck in the gods wont improve the perception of the fans, improve the engagement with players etc. TV won’t be filming level 3, like it doesn’t know with the south stand, so it will be make the ground look like a soulless bowl. It

Hopefully I am wrong but it just seems another step to move the regular fans away from the better seats. Like at Barca the ‘cules’ended up in the top tiers.

If the club really wanted to make a difference level 1 of the North Stand could be a singing section and keeping the hardcore fans front and centre as it should be.

I hope that doesn’t happen. We’ve got a huge second tier - that should be the home end. The hardcore fans should be front and centre of the new stand

This is a point I totally agree with. I sit with my old dad in probably the least vocal area of the ground - Colin Bell upper tier. For the biggest games the regulars up there will join in with the singing. For many of the others there are loads of people who (and it really irritates me for some reason) join in with a song but quietly and sort of under their breath.

It's basic crowd psychology. Most English people don't want to look a knob. People take their lead from those around them. Exactly as you say, when we are at Wembley it's the same people.

Southampton at home on a December night isn't going to be like a bear pit, but with a louder singing section leading the way, it can be miles better.

A singing section on NSL1 would have the exact same issues as SSL1 has now; the sound struggles to spread anywhere beyond it and many other areas can't hear it.

It would be far better to centre our vocal support on NSL2 to make use of the roof specifically designed to spread sound around the stadium.

Apart from the 500 GA+ - why not make the whole of NSL2 safe standing?

Also if 1894 have got any sense they’d have a database or list of people with season card numbers ready to give to the club who are willing to stand together and are committed to making a singing section work.

I don't know where this idea that we don't have enough singers come from, we have huge demand for standing spots.

It's pretty much impossible to move your season ticket to a Standing Section because of availability, and guess what the first section of the ground to sell out is every game? It's SSL1 and Kippax Corner, every game without fail. So the demand for standing is absolutely there.

As for your 2nd point, it shouldn't be about making ourselves look good for the cameras or thinking about what will be shown on TV.

I somewhat get the point about player engagement, but I don't think it's a good enough reason to say no to a 10,000 seat stand which is acoustically perfect for atmosphere.

And just look at the San Siro, all their singers are "up in the gods", and they make an absolute racket.

It needs to be at the back of the south stand, not the front.

EDIT - just realsied that's exactly what you said so consider this a "like".

They haven't ruled this out, they've just committed to an initial 3,000 and said we'll go from there based on demand.

It's up to us fans to show that there's the demand!

No offence mate but I disagree with nearly all of this. the things that you describe as "interaction" aren't atmosphere and in any case wouldn't change. Players slide up to whatever stand is nearest to them and even the family stand chant at the corner takers.

Atmosphere is noise which booms around the stadium and lifts the players.

i don’t know how other people feel about this but I think if the surrounding areas immediately outside the ground had more places (which is coming) to have a drink and build some pre match atmosphere then it would certainly help

That’s the game changer for me. Even with the needless GA seats, if the rest of the stand was safe standing that would make a massive difference. That’s the compromise we need
