Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

I thought our away following was fantastic and to outsing Leeds Utd at Elland Road is something special. Blues watching on TV said they could only hear our fans for most of the game.

It was far better than the usuaL away atmosphere we slap ourselves on our backs about.when one song finished the next was underway. Virtually all the fans in our end joined in singing as far I could see / hear. Often it doesn’t get much above 1 in 2.

The key to out singing Lees’s is not to worry about Marching on Together although we tried to match that. It’s dominating after the early loud start from Leeda and going again when the find their second wind around 70 minutes. We matched them and sometimes drowned them out:

Brilliant lads and ladies
Elland Road has always been one of the more atmospheric grounds, but I can just picture the scene in the changing room after the match, when Foden explains to his curious teammates that the City fans were responding to distasteful taunts about a notorious series killer from Greater Manchester with chants about a notorious sex predator from West Yorkshire

All a bit tongue in cheek and I was close enough to the Leeds fans to see that they were laughing at the Saville chant.

I've long since given up on distinguishing between terrace banter and unacceptable behaviour,. but I suspect that the line is crossed whenever they host the rags.

I just wish that City had more inspirational songs about the current players especially when they're under the cosh in a critical phase of the game.

Even a rousing COME ON CITY! which strangely only seems to appear when we're losing.

The rags famously outbantered the lillywhited a few years ago by responding to”Mason Greenwood. He’s one of your own” with, “Mason Greenwood, he’s Yorkshire like you.” I hate to give the rags any credit but they deserved some.

At least we were belting out the Semenyo song. Mark Guehi deserves a top chant, as does Cherki and others.

Yes the meaning of “Come on City” seem to change in the 80s and we’ve never quite rediscovered its essence. We need a new Helen the Bell. A true City legend.

There was a televised United game at Elland Road 3-4 years ago when I found myself wondering if the rags were actually singing what I thought they were singing

Suffice to say, my "Always look out for Turks carrying knives" suspicions were confirmed by the "Whose that dying on the runway?" response.

I don't know who started it, and I'm not particularly bothered,. but what really struck me was how clearly audible it was for the Sunday lunchtime audience, so there must have been hundreds involved on both sides.

We've never claimed to be whiter than white, but thankfully both songs appear to have leapfrogged the current City hardcore.

From around 37 minutes to half time you could even hear the players when they were talking fairly quietly, never mind shouting.

Long stretches of absolutely nothing from our so called Singing Section nor away fans.

Then it was very loud but very infrequently very loud at other times.

There might have been nothing from the singing section, but there was also nothing from 3/4’s of the Etihad as well.10,000’s of City fans sat in silence. All the singing or the majority of the singing doesn’t always have to come from 6000 City fans on SSL1. There are another 43,000 City fans inside the Etihad. Whereas at Leeds fans standing and sitting in all 4 of their stands joined in with the singing throughout the match. The constant blaming of the singing section and SSL1 in particular throughout the season had become predictable, tedious and boring. Look at the other 3 stands for a change, bar blocks 111, 110, and 109, who do try and get songs going as well during games.

The team need to give the fans something to get them off their seats. The 1st half was a crap, side to side bore off with no players prepared to risk anything

For large parts of the game there was nothing in terms of noise. Then for short spells it was probably the loudest we’ve been all season.

The stadium wide city! City! chant and we’re not really here were brilliant.

However the rest of the time, it was very half hearted. People were trying to sing, but I could barely hear them. A small group of forest fans sing and sounded so much louder. It’s like our fans have the volume turned down on their voices at times
