Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

Watching our game now. Villa 1 up i would expect the home fans to be well up for it. It's like a fucking library.
Honestly think football as a whole has a real problem with atmospheres.
If Villa fans can't get up for being 1 up against a team with our record, when will they ?.
I dont see myself going to many more matches in the future. The atmosphere within the pl is shit. I miss the tribalism, going home just about able to talk. Sadly these days are gone.

Credit to the travelling Blues who got behind the lads. I didn't hear us much but maybe that was just how it came across on TV.

No, we were pretty quiet. We had a good start, but we went quiet after Villa scored, and during the dreadful 1st half performance by the team. The 2nd half wasn’t much better, apart from chants of come on City, and the odd other chant. Villa fans we decent at times, and very quiet at other times. In all honesty, not one of our better away days on and off the pitch.

So do we only sing when we’re winning now ;)

We were singing:”Is this the Etihad” but the irony is that, for all we complain, the Etihad is still louder than many other PL grounds including Villa.

ensure there's no phone signal and internet access and it would improve the atmosphere at pretty much all clubs.
It’s a demographic thing isn’t it? Look how subdued those recent Oasis crowds looked compared to the mania when they played at Maine Road. People on their bloody phones instead of being off their heads and going wild. I grew up in the 70s……bloody hell….that was crazy.

I was at 3 of those Oasis gigs and the crowd was mega, it was a throwback to early days of gigging , people hugging and jumping around everywhere, honestly atmospheres were unreal at Heaton Park and Wembley. Sure, there was still a % glued to their phones especially the first intro bit (kind of understandable ) but still - nothing compared to likes of pretty much most other bands and artists. People addicted to their phones at gigs have definitely ruined the experience.

Maybe it’s been posted already (might have even done it myself, haven’t bothered checking), but for me a big part of the problem (at a lot of grounds) is the limit on away fan numbers.

Every big game I can recall (atmosphere wise) was when there was big noisy away followings. Certainly at Maine Rd you knew whether the atmosphere would be good when you started to see how full the Platt lane end would be (when it was for away fans).

There are obviously exceptions for important games when the result itself makes it like a final, but I much preferred having big away followings (and being part of a big away following).

I miss the PL of a decade ago where we got full ends at Blackburn (7,000), Bolton (5,000), Wigan (4,500)… some of our atmospheres at Blackburn and Bolton have been top class (less so at Wigan).

Getting 1,500 or wherever it is at Brentford and Bournemouth is bobbins. Getting just 3,000 at Old Trafford is a piss take.

The PL rules are currently a minimum of 3,000 tickets for away fans or 10% of capacity if the ground holds under 30,000. Whereäs, it’s 15% in the EFL and FA Cups.

Maybe it’s time for more in the PL. Maybe make it 10% at all grounds and scrap the 3,000 cap. 3k at Old Trafford is only 4%. They don’t honour the 15% in the Cups there either, they only offer 12% (9,000) when it should be 11,200.

A new independent regulator should make clubs give 10% and take the difference out of their ticket tout partner allocation so it doesn’t affect proper fans.

Everyone get down the pub for a good few hours before getting to the Etihad on Sunday. We’ve not had a good atmosphere yet this season so let’s change that!

There were very few away fans noticeable at most of the home games at maine road in the 70s, certainly before segregation came in, yet the atmosphere on the Kippax was still usually great. Suppose it's just different times.

I did the stadium tour yesterday and was struck by the concrete overhang in the south stand. Surely a different cladding underneath would cost a tiny amount of money and improve volume levels? You’re basically in an open end down there at the moment. Surely somebody must have considered this at some point?

If they stopped cheating by faking inuries to slow down play it might be more exciting for their fans. They should also stop the players from constantly waving their arms at the crowd. Our fans drowned them out on our last visit. The best London crowd I have seen for years was at Leyton Orient.

Totally agree.
It's no more exciting than going to the cinema
