Atmosphere yesterday

I don't understand the "if they play like that, how can they expect support" argument, if someone wouldn't mind explaining it to me.

If we plan to sing our hearts out when we're playing well (and don't need the support, because we're already playing well), but plan to sit sternly silent when we're playing poorly (and the players need the support, because they're playing poorly), aren't we in store for a troubled season? I'm just stuck on the idea that the performance dictates the atmosphere. Would've thought it would be the other way around.

Almost started a new thread about the atmosphere because is really deserves one. Anyway, tonight was dire. We have a section of the stadium that can hold their heads high, it is the lower tier from I'm guessing 107 around to the end of lower tier stand which houses the away fans. So about 10% of the stadium. Seriously I don't know what is wrong with us fans this season. We rant about how the players have let us down well we've been letting the club down too. I sit just behind our bench in the Colin bell, and gradually over the last couple of the seasons the atmosphere has gone from poor to abysmal. My girlfriend, who has been to a handful of games home and away, turned to me today when it was 1-0 about ten mins into the second half and simply asked 'what's wrong?' I was little confused and asked her what did she mean. 'Why is no one supporting the team'. I try shouting a bit but it's embarrassing, I feel like I'm upsetting people.

The stadium finally got behind the team when we were 2-1 down but it's far too late then. You could see once everyone was screaming city forward how Sunderland automatically dropped deeper and started making mistakes. Equally we had more impoteus about us, and it drove our players forward. Now before anyone replies 'I pay I can do what I want' 'the players earn enough money they shouldn't need blah blah blah' the fact is a club is made up of 3 vital factors for me; the manger, the players and the fans. Anyone who thinks atmosphere doesn't make a difference is deluded. Look at anfield last week. Look at stoke many seasons ago. Teams abroad like galatasry, atletico. Now I am not saying we are a major factor in a teams success, I'm just saying we can make a slight difference and tonight that difference may have got us the 3 points.

On the back of the Liverpool defeat we, the fans, needed to lift our players and personally I felt we let the club down. Now I don't have the answer to what the problem is and equally I realise this will piss a fair few of you off. But something needs to change at the ethiad!

Agree 100% mate.

Should we boooooooooooooo at all games like Liverpool fans and then brick the opposing teams coaches after the game?

Actually if we booed every time the other team had the ball it would probably help us.

This exactly....Football is about passion, winning or losing. We can sit there and say 'oh they earn xxx amount of money' so if they can't be arsed neither can I. Do people not watch football for the passion and atmosphere? One person turn round and say they'd watch football if the fans weren't involved. It's a shame 80% of our stadium don't come to life until it matters.

How far we have fallen that the Etihad is spoken of in the same way as the Emirates "Library" now...

PS: ShowSec harassed most of 109 into sitting down tonight. No excuse, but found it funny after City called for the crowd's support on Twitter when they do NOTHING to facilitate atmosphere improvements (was Boys in Blue for 15 seconds supposed to help?).

They're not fucking wrong though are they?

Firstly, I don't get to anywhere close to as many games as I'd like. But today, in 115, I was way happier with the atmosphere than I have been during earlier matches this season and the last few seasons (where I've sat in different areas all around the ground). At one point I thought it felt more like an away game because of how much some fans were just constantly singing. I loved it (and joined in).
But from speaking to others and reading this topic, I'm guessing I was lucky to be in that section tonight.
I don't know why it has become so quiet, why people only want to cheer and sing when we're winning or when it gets totally desperate but I'm starting the fear that there is no real way to change it unfortunately. I go to be a part of something that my dad was a part of, to express my passion, to cheer, to support and to laugh. I can only guess that the quiet 90% go for different reasons or just have different ways of expressing these things. I don't get it and that prevents me seeing an answer.

Well done to those who kept it going tonight, I went feeling really gutted after Sunday, but totally determined to make the players know that I am 100% behind whoever pulls on that shirt, and you lot helped me feel like I accomplished that. I took my son to the toilet after around 55minutes and the atmosphere at the back of the stand, under the roof of the second tier was amazing!

And on this...

If the players and manager can't be arsed you can't blame the fans for not being arsed either.
...it is our club, not the players or manager, they are at work (we wish it was a lot lot more to them but in reality, sometimes they just don't seem to be in the mood. It's different for us though, we are there and should show them how much every second means to us and maybe it will have a positive effect on their performance too.

They all have a point. Two years ago we took them over the line. Now people go and watch City like it's an entertainment factor. 'Oh there's Aguero' the guy who scored a few years ago...
