Attendance last night

Lazy joke, united used to put on free buses to get out of towner into their ground after the second world war, with all the talk of falling attendance and people worried about it I thought I'd chip in.
Falling attendances where? Who's worried?

I never knew Utd put on buses for anyone....

Bloody brilliant turn out for the League Cup on a Tuesday night with the way Public Transport and the infrastructure is around the Etihad.

I am at an age now where I just can not be arsed to drag myself out for a mid week night match, so well done to all of you who did make the effort.
I left home at 6.45pm and was in my seat by 7.15pm. The bus took less than 10 mins to make the journey as there was no traffic so all I had to do was walk 15 mins from one side of town to the other to get to the bus stop. We've built a myth.

Takes me ten minutes to get to the ground. Same home. (I walk to my car parked near Vermillion)

And stockport schools back this week

And Salford schools back this week as well.

Personally I will attend every home game, whichever competition and whatever time, as long as I am able. Plus as many away games as I can, but they will be mainly 'close' ones. I attended Preston and had a ticket for Everton but was too ill on the day to go, (don't worry the seat wasn't empty!) I won't attend Liverpool again although up to four years ago I loved the camaraderie of those games but now it is toxic. I'm hoping for a ticket for Sheffield United and Burnley on my points but if I don't get one c'est la vie.

However at the Etihad it will be a case of................... there's no show without Punch or................ is the Pope a Catholic when I am asked if I am attending a home game!! :-)
Each to his/her own as they say.

You would not be able to do that if you were coming from Timperley.

That sounds reasonable based on what I saw.

Decent crowd based on our history in this competition, and involvement in Champions League and Premier League. A run of the mill attendance.

I remember not so long ago getting to League Cup quarter-finals against West Ham which was a really big game back in those days as we were desperate to get to Wembley and there were more City there last night than there was against West Ham (2006), and back then that game was huge.
3k more than Villa v Wolves (Wolves full allocation), 3k more than Everton v Watford and 1k less than Chelsea v United. So a very reasonable crowd considering it’s the least attractive of 4 home games on the trot in 10 days.

It really doesn't help that metrolink stopped running the direct service out to the ground or that they insist on putting on single trams on match days. Doesnt happen when the rags are at home.

I love night matches but they're a pain in the arse to attend midweek with getting there after work and getting home after.

I am dubious about the crowd quoted for Chelsea v United. Unless they force all season ticket holders to buy League Cup tickets (like another club I know) the huge gaps on the lower tier and swathes of empty seats on the upper tier suggests that the figure was ‘exaggerated’.

A crowd of 38,645 would look much more full in a 42,000 capacity stadium.

Having said that, the City crowd quoted looked on the high side.

I don't think the City attendance looked high.
EL3, WL3 hold c.5600 and EL3 holds just under 6000. Together that equals 17,200. There were approx 1,500 in EL3.

Effective capacity of the Etihad is 54,500 so that means we had a crowd of 54,500 - 17,200 + 1500 minus empty seats in L1 and L2.

= 38,800 - empty seats in L1 and L2.

So City are effectively saying that there were around 1500 empty seats in L1 and L2 which feels about right. 500 in L2 in the away end and 1000 in the City ends. We know from the online planner that there were only about 400 onsale a couple of hours before KO so taking into a/c people who don't show with tickets, it all fits.

Why was the Utd end almost empty at CFC? A ban because of persistent standing? It was only about a 1/3 full. Normally if an away allocation is not taken up, the seats are sold to home fans.

Surely utd have loads of London fans. Must have been some kind of action by CFC re Utd fans
