Aurora Borealis/Northern Lights

Seeing them is one of my ambitions. I was going to go to Rekjavik in this international break but after leaving it a while noticed that the trip cost had skyrocketed over £100 (I thought hotels etc. were cheaper the later you left them!) so have had to postpone it... early next year maybe when there is a gap in City games. I read that before March you really need to go.

Now I've seen those photos from Crooktree, I had no idea such clear views were possible even in Scotland? Are those views common or rare?

The further North you are, the better the chance of seeing it. The next 6 months is suppost to be the best time in years to see the Northern Lights. They are quite common in Scotland, but you have to be in the right places to maximise your chance of viewing them. An elevated place, without any lights, and a clear view to the North is the best place to view it.

This website is good.

The Green area is where the Lights will be over head. The thinner green line to the South is where it will be visable on the horizon.

This was in the Lake District last night. Stunning.

Any of you get to see them live this evening? it's been drizzly here for days, but I caught a bit of NL action through the clouds, a little while ago.

Really fucked off. 8.20pm we set off and headed up the M66, then towards Clitheroe, Slaidburn, and Bentham and Inglebrough. The whole way it was fucking cloudy! We checked the weather and Diane Bitching Oxberry on North West Tonight said it was going to be a clear night, the only cloud would be tomorrow afternoon. Like fuck you cow! Really pissed off, just got back home now.
