Australian A League

c'mon lads pls eh. its quite possibly the worst standard of football going about. tell me can anyone think of a worse player to represent australia than Topper-stanley. ffs its a tin pot league where the majority of the fans who go refer to the referee as the f**kin umpire. Joke of a league

ok thought you were serious. sorry lol. meh i used to like alsopp thompson and some others but muscat has converted them into dirty cheats

Yeah fair enough, I can see how Muscat might be a little unpopular with fans of other teams, he's always getting in sly digs at players, was more than a bit fortunate not be sent off against Adelaide last year for a kick on Agostino.

Saying that, given that he plays for my team, I like him. But I think he's past his best. He'll get the runaround next year in the ACL if he plays.

Not even worthy of a reply. If you had any kind of knowledge about the crowded Australian sporting market you'd know what football is competing with in the country. The A-League may never reach top European standards, but it's only gonna get better from here, and, to date, has only reached a mere fraction of its potential.

I can't get into A-League for the same reason I can't consistently watch MLS here in the U.S. -they're socialist sports leagues. No system of promotion and relegation, instead it's that stupid franchise model which only encourages mediocrity. Granted, the A-League isn't quite as socialist as MLS, but it is still similarly run. At this time of year it's a lot more fun to watch the Brazil Série A.

I appreciate that, but what do honestly expect from a country with the geography of Australia, and a league that is only four years old??

Actually, I think the Brazilian model would work great in Australia. Have state tournaments to dictate what level of the pyramid each team should be on. When you consider just how large Brazil is and how they've managed to grow top clubs and competitions -I think that negates the geography excuse. I'm a US citizen myself and a lot of people here say the same thing as you when the Club model vs. Franchise model debate comes up and I respond the same way -Brazil has done it why can't we?
