Possibly CrossCountry then West Midlands. Yeah, it wasn't cheap (around £75 I think they said) but every other route was in the hundreds of pounds due to the strike so it was by far the best option that day.Cheers. Which company? And didn't it work out horribly expensive, doing that?
Stop being so miserable. One an hour, luxury. I want to go from Sydney (the real capital if Australia) to Canberra (the pretend capital) I can go at 8.05am 12 noon or 5pm.

I did that run Euston to Piccadilly and back many times. I don't remember any cancelled trains, and they were rarely late. They were o.k., by and large.
