Away fans / tourists in home sections

It's just not worth getting involved these days. If the clubs own cameras don't pick you out the countless fans filming it and sticking it online will. It can be difficult not to act on impulse when someone is winding you up but you'll be looking at a banning order and at the minimum a fine as well.
That doesn’t seem to apply for away fans at the Etihad sadly.

Got the Sheffield United/Leeds match on right now and it's got me wondering how much of a problem this is in the Championship, if it's a problem at all.

I've heard some fans say they prefer the matchday experience in the lower divisions as it's more "real"

Yeah. Totally ridiculous overreaction if that’s all he did. Even if not. That many piling in on one lad?

Just out of interest are the buyers on the FB pages all vetted? Same for tickets sold on here, are they vetted? What’s to stop them buying them and selling them on?

I see the same touts outside the ground who have been doing it since MR days. Cops are sometimes 10 yards away and just seem to turn a blind eye.
I only use the Man City Face Value Tickets and Travel page beside this Forum's ticket page. A lot of the buyers and sellers get to know each other that makes it harder for touts to infiltrate. There could be a risk of touting but the Mods seem very swtiched on. I think it would be easier for touts to buy their direct from City.

My friend returned his and his sons' seats for the Liverpool game because of other commitments. Sat in these seats which the club reimbursed him about £40 for the pair were two young lads from Austria who paid £360 to Football Ticket Net who presumably bought these from the club. This is what we're up against and why the club are no longer interested in selling to local supporters.

I hope that happens Tim. There is a groundswell of opinion in the fan base ATM that I hope hits the mark with people who make decisions. The club has got a lot right this last 10 years, it’s been some ride. There is no need for it end, just need to listen to the support and make sure they are not feeling more and more sidelined.
The increased Etihad & new FAB sponsorship agreements will generate a huge increase in revenue over the period of the agreements....pprobably many years.

Some of this revenue should be set aside to fund ticket price freezes/ reductions/conditions for 2025/26 and beyond.

The club CAN afford it and the top boss & Khaldoon must make good on the statements they've made at the completion of the take over and regularily subsequently (Khaldoon).

Their integrity, and reputations of trust, are now on the liine, and if they are broken or comprised they will be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to rebuild.

A tipping point is approaching which, if not recognised at every level within the club, the relationship with many, many thousands of fans will be negatively changed ,possibly for ever !!

I would beware the opinions expressed in this thread because most are assumptions. Liverpool has always been a game where Scousers would get everywhere. I remember this from Maine Rd, and in my block there wasn't 1 incident of a Liverpool fan celebrating in our block. And that's in 600 people.

What is true though is that in midweek Cup games, a lot of seasoncard holders are no-showing and they are being replaced by another group. A lot of assumptions are being made about this group. IMO, they are locals. Others call them tourists but they can't evidence this.

Pass their seat numbers onto @dannybcity so he can pass them onto the club.

Just people being too busy on weeknights, or is it a cost issue?

I have seen this isn't a City-only problem, I recall United having to shut down huge parts if not the entire upper tier of OT for Europa League fixtures not long ago

We had those tokens on the back of the programme that you stuck on a voucher sheet. That enabled you to purchase tickets for the big games. The downside was you had to buy a programme, but most people did back then as there was no internet and dedicated City magazines so the programme was everything. Other games you just turned up at the turnstile, paid your cash and you were in.
That is 100% corrent, I couldn't remember how you got the tokens. Its 50 years ago I tell thee:-)

Ive seen numerous examples exactly the same. Yet bizarrely some on here still think the club aren’t doing it

I’ve been saying for weeks that something is going to kick off soon. And yesterday it did: 5 arrested for the South Stand Level 1 incident alone.

City’s ticketing policy is to the detriment of City fans yet it’s only City fans who get punished for it.

City will be quick to brandish bans to anyone involved yesterday yet they never used their stadium camera technology to find the Liverpool fan who hospitalised a teenage girl City fan with a cup full of coins.

I will maintain n’all, that yesterday will not be the worst we see. There is going to be a riot somewhere soon.

Ten years ago ticket prices at City and Leeds were broadly comparable. Now we are much more expensive than them, no doubt fuelled by our great success. The stands at Elland Road and Bramhall Lane are closer to the pitch making it easier to generate a good amount of noise IMO but Leeds fans can be nervous and tough on their team, particularly when chasing promotion.

Leeds have a good mix / range of ages amongst their match going fanbase. Leeds has 2 singing stands. Leeds have planning permission to expand their ground to 53k. Work will commence once they are "stable" in the Prem. They have the demand for those sorts of crowds if they can get promoted and sustain Prem status.

Some Championship grounds have away fan capacity of up to 7k or 8K that makes for a good away day out.

100% Tim. I was there all through the division 2 days. We absolutely proved ourselves then and rightly got plaudits for it. There will still 35000/40000 loyalists week in week out, we are a huge club. The difference for me to then and now though is we were anti establishment, anti rags, we revelled in it and there was a perverse enjoyment and pride to it. We are now at the top table (albeit in a sort of villainous role for the red tops) and we cannot put that genie back in the bottle. If we do slip away on the pitch I cannot be only one thinking it could be a hard fall. The red tops loving media help to keep those tourist traps clubs flourishing. I don’t think we would be afforded the same luxury. I might be way off in that assessment, and we will probably remain in and around the top now anyway,(we are allowed an off season)but it does concern me that we are relying more and more on floating support.

How much do gate receipts really matter to the clubs coffers? At the end of the day it’s a business to our owners and rightly so. They see a tourist coming in for their game and dropping a few hundred quid on tat in the store .. they another tourist for 2 more games doing the same and they’ve easily spent more than I spend on my season ticket and I don’t buy anything from the city store but I’m a miserable bastard. It’s not personal mate but it feels it to us old hands who’ve been through the shitter with this club and we blues have a strange love of the macabre so enjoyed every fucking second of it.

Next game most likely. The noise from Madrid had everyone on guard yesterday, what happened yesterday will enhance the ill feeling further.

I'd have people outside the turnstiles warning half and half'ers, people with half the club shop in a bag to be very careful

Some footage of a dipper in our end yesterday getting a beating. Grown men doing that who have probably never thrown a punch in their life. Sad thing is the stewards get a few too. They’re not there to be hit.

I can’t imagine the shame of being identified and broadcast on the socials as someone who has done that.
