What would be interesting is if the club looked at the buying history of those fans with membership only. If they found that A N Other only buys one ticket per season and it’s always against the same team there might be a strong chance that the person is one of those crafty fans that buys memberships just to watch his team against us as he has no chance of getting an away ticket. It can’t be too hard to run a programme to look for fans who have bought, let’s say less than three tickets per season for the past five seasons. A little bit of digging on social media sites etc would soon out these people. Flag up these accounts and ensure they can’t buy anything in the future. Email them explaining the situation and if they want to appeal against the outcome then let them do so. I suspect most want, the minority may register again under a false name etc but if two or three types of ID are required including at least one with a photo it might make them think twice. That roots out those away fans who think they are being clever each season, it doesn’t root out those tickets sold by resellers buts even easier to sort isn’t it.
