In terms of numbers

1. Rags
2. Liverpool
3. Sunderland
4. Everton
5. Newcastle
6. Sunderland
7. Chelsea
8. Spurs
9. City

In terms of atmosphere.

1. Rags
2. City
3. The rest

I don't see 1/3 of the match singing about another team is a good atmosphere, West Brom away the 1st 15 mins were dedicated to city, then Rooney, then City again!

For home atmosphere i reckon were 17th or 18th in the league.

bullshit.

newcastle, wigan, liverpool, fulham, arsenal, chelsea, the rags, bolton, sunderland, villa, west brom, wolves, neverton, blackburn.

all worse IMO,

not sure on the 3 promoted teams, stoke are above us.

In the 80's and early 90's it was a case of saying to your mate in the pub on Friday night " shall we go to Chelsea tomorrow"

Now it has to be planned with almost military precision.

Wigan last year was a good example. Booked weeks in advance. Woke up and looked outside. Fcking pissing down. I wouldn't have bothered had I not already bought a ticket.

Got pissed wet through, atmosphere shite, crap game an only consolation was the win.

Ticket prices are too high too. I will just about pay £35. Won't pay more this season so that rules out 75% of games.

Shit kick off times and days don't help. Fulham on a Sunday. Spurs 1.30 on a Sunday, qpr 5.30 on a Saturday.

The final factor is tv. Lives games were not available years ago and even when they were we were rarely on. Now we are on almost every week. £150 for a day out at spurs or watch it on tv?

The biggest factors are cost and the availiability of games on satellite tv, many will have five pints in a boozer and watch game for £20, go to london on train £55,ticket £55,food£10,ale £20 Day out £140, effectively we are paying £120 extra to be there and at present many dont have that cash, three times a month.

I remember in the 80/90s we had a much bigger travelling support but the costs were effectively much smaller and many lads went in big groups, they cant afford it now, the profile of the fan attending matches changed after the Taylor Report, effectively the report reduce the number of lads who went to games and made the support of most clubs more middle class than working class, you had to be to afford the prices. The characters attending the games went.
The lads who used to beg, steal and borrow to be everywhere we played were top guys, There were the buses like Mayne Line, Denton, Star Bar Glossop that were wild etc, It was football, ale, wacky backy, poppers and a top day out with no social responsability,it was pure heaven for many. All seater stadiums and the ticketing hassle started the decline and cost requirements have finally screwed many of these guys. Away trips were what many lads lived and worked all week to do, Many of the young lads from then now have families to support. Fair play to lads like Chelt and Glouc,Reddish etc who still go week in week out but times have changed for many.
I still go to all aways games and must admit I preferred the old days but football has changed and will never ever be the same again. We will never again have support we used to have at away games, the game has changed. The JCL type will never know and understand City like lads who followed City everywhere in the 80/90s.
If you were there I need not explain what I mean, If you were not you will never know how much City means to Lads who were.True Blues.

OK for atmosphere but shite in terms of numbers compared to how we used to be.

Exactly what I think.

Funny/odd how our away numbers deteriorate as we actually start to build a quality side.
I think expense plays a large part. £50 a ticket for many games. A lot of people who used to go just can't afford it.

I think fans are now used to watching it in the pub or on TV. They can still have a good laugh without the expense and hassle of travel. Hate to say it but be surprised if we get that much support than we do now, if we do then it'll probably be new fans. The rags, Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea get large numbers because they have such a huge fan base all over the country to pull from.

Did you hear the Bayer Levekusen fans at Chelsea today ?They were excellent, I bet it was a right laugh being in the middle of that.

-- Tue Sep 13, 2011 8:21 pm --

The biggest problem, as outlined by others, is cost
When we were shit we were a category C side for most clubs and tickets were cheaper
Now we are a category A side the home team puts the prices up to maximise their profit, and we are charged a lot more which isn't fair on the travelling fan
The FA or Premier League should step in and put a maximum price on away tickets, say £30

Totally agree with you. I'm actually not doing the London away games this season, I prefer to save the money towards my CL away games.

what about the 70`s... I used to hitch to the games as did many others, was a bit iffy in those days, much worse than the 80`s\90`s. mind you , it was a cheap day out then compared to now.
