What was the question answer and translation?
Please :-)
The french translator seemed to be a bit inexperienced or just a dodo because even from the off she didn't seem to understand the instructions on how the questions/answers were to be managed - Aymeric pointed out to her with the first question from English press that she was supposed to translate the question first.
Of course, she didn't translate it accurately as the question was about both understanding 'what the manger wants' and 'the demands of English football' after having played enough with City. Truth is it was a bit of a daft question to begin with since the player has had the demands of playing at Bilbao for 6 years and English football demands are hardly different for a defender. She responded with if he understood the
expectations of Pep
and English football which sounded more like a question about understanding what Pep expects and English football was an add-on. In fact, Laporte didn't even respond to the English football bit of the question in his response - either lost in translation or merely found it a stupid question
Next question was the first from a french reporter (L'Equipe) who asked if Laporte viewed the occasion of playing in France against OL an provided an opportunity to bolster his image in France since he hadn't been selected for the NT by Deschamps. Laporte answered that 'maybe from the perspective of the French people, I have no idea.' and basically said he takes it match by match to meet City objectives - so no real response about his image in France. The translator bumbled the translation into English whether by design or ignorance, no way to know for certain. Saying 'what does it mean for your image' was incorrect characterization of the original questioner's intent + she said 'maybe for the French people it would have an impact' - he never said that.
I mean, it just goes in a similar manner throughout, having to have questioners repeat for her - very frustrating
