Aymeric Laporte - 2019/20 Performances

Bit shaky last night. Do that against Lewandowski and he kills us - simple as that.

My issue with Laporte is that even though he’s an excellent defender and brilliant on the ball he’s nowhere near as dominant in the box as Vinnie was or Van Djik currently is.

If Vinnie/VVD play last night there’s no way Benzema gets a free header there. Laporte needs to be more commanding in our box.

I think this is where having a partner of that ilk helps. One thing Laporte does better than anyone I've seen in a long time (including Kompany) is play high up the pitch and help us dominate things when we're in possession. That's what he's absolutely world class at. He's like the best of Stones and Otamendi rolled into one; Otamendi's ability to pressure high up and win those important 50/50s with anticipation, tackling ability, and aggression (when he's not a donkey brain), with Stones's reading of the game and passing ability. Plus he's a bulky piece of work. That's why we concede so many fewer goals with him in the team because we control the proceedings far better with him in the team. So if Kompany/VVD played last night instead of Laporte they might have dealt with that chance but they probably would have had to deal with more things than Laporte would have done.

It is interesting/worrying that he keeps getting found out in the CL.

It’s all well and good looking classy in a 6-0 win against some shite in the Prem but it’s not a good look to keep folding against stronger sides in Europe.

Was slandered for this but my point stands. Glad to see many are waking up to the fact.
He's a Varane type who needs a Ramos/Kompany type beside him or else he's just the French John Stones.

Should at least put this myth to bed that we would've won the title without his injury. He is better than the alternative but we would have had a similar season with him being fit all the time.

Always prone to mistakes in these kind of games. The amount of mistakes he has made in the league that weren't punished and therefore not highlighted was really high aswell.
